  • Tiger Stole vs Spike necklace

I have both of these neck items but im not sure would would give the better benefit.

Currently im 48 and wearing these items with stats on them..

    Mrc. Cpt. Headgear
    Brigandine tunic
    Battle gloves
    Spike necklace
    Life belt
    Sniper ring x2
    Beetle earring +1 x2

Now thats a total of +4 str +6 dex +6 attack +23accuracy raw

Just curios about the opinions of people which might be the better necklace to wear, if sacrificing +3dtr/dex is worth +5 attack.

I prefered Spike Necklace to Tiger Stole simply because at the time Tiger Stole was about the only +Atk item I could wear. 3 STR isn't huge, but 5 ATK isn't much at all either really unless you can get a lot of +ATK stuff, then the gain is noticeable.

      Spike necklace, all the way.

3 Str IS huge, 5 atk isn't. To make it simple, their are not too many +Str modifier items in this game. Only ones that come to mind are Amemit Mantle (1 or 2 str), Spike Necklace, and Rings (Which I rather use Acc. or Dex). The fact that it has Both Str/Dex makes it good for many levels to come. Currently I use Merman's Gorget and i'm 1/3rd to Peacock Charm ^^ The reason I chose Merman over Spike is because I'm Elvaan and Str isn't my primary focus. Currently all my gear is Atk/Acc. I think I sit around 40 for both. The 3 Str isn't big by itself, but if you're always using food (which you should) than that's +8 str right there. Bottomline is, Atk items are easy to come by, Str isn't. This makes it very important if you're a Mithra or a Hume.

        Uhh

Unless your attack is maxed, each attack point is 2x as good as each str point. Same with dex and accuracy. I like the stole a lot, I've used it from level 24-30, I recently switched back to spike necklace mainly because I read that the -6 mind wasn't as bad as I thought. On the bright side +3 str is going to give you ranged atk also, +3 dex is going to improve sneak attack for me since I'm thf, it's going to give me accuracy, it's going to improve chances of tripple attack when I get that and it's going to improve critical attack rate. So it might just be a little better. I'm totally crazy though and me and my cousin are going to buy 3 sets of equipment, so we can change equipment mid battle to optimize sneak, trick or sneak + trick by equipping agl and/or dex items. Then we'll be reverting to gear that is better for just swinging at the mob normally, and I'm pretty sure at this point atleast I'll be switching back to tiger stole. On the other hand, any accuracy bonus can go a long way so I might just stay with spike necklace, more testing is required. I just need peacock charm so that I don't have to debate this with myself anymore.

Are you aware that it is not exactly 1 Point = 2 Points? Do you have any empirical data to support this? Or is this one of those "My cousin's boyfriend's sister's best friend's neighbour's dog" told you this was true? Are you also aware that most raw stats serve two functions? In this case, Str affects your Raw Atk as well as influencing your damage output, mainly your Minimum damage? Since we can't log data, I can't state this as fact. But trust me, Str does a whole lot more than increasing your Atk by 1/2 a point. Do you really think a Life Belt is equivalent to 20 Dex (minus Critical hit bonus)? Also, you can't max attack. There is a "soft cap" or rather a diminishing returns so to speak, but there is no Max.

On the bright side +3 str is going to give you ranged atk also
Ranged attack is really going to help a Drg, especially since we can't use any Ranged weapons. Now since his profile doesn't state whether he is a Drg or not, I would assume by his gear and the fact that this is the Drg forums that he is.

On a side note. You mentioned you were a Thf. You also mentioned you wished to swap to Atk gear for normal swings. Are you aware Thf's use Atk even for TA/SA? Here's a simple reasoning. As you approach higher levels, you need Atk to improve your potential damage. Now I'm not talking about your measly 20 dmg a hit. I'm talking about your Fuidama damage output. Since SA/TA is a critical hit, what this means is that, unless you up your Atk, you will start hitting your Dmg Cap. This in reality, will prevent you from doing much more damage than you're capable of doing. In order to raise the Dmg Cap, you must raise your Atk. So raising Atk for normal swings from a measly 20 dmg to say 22 dmg isn't going to do a whole lot. However, raising your Fuidama cap from say 450 dmg to like 550 dmg is.

I realize str has more of an affect than I stated. And I already know attack affects your sneak/trick dmg. I'm not going to toally ignore attack when sneak/tricking, I just think dex/agl will have more of an effect most of the time.

to me Dealing Damage over the whole fight is better than getting 1 or 2 good hits and missing the rest. This is why i just the spike necklace. I get plus 2 attack and 2 accuracy instead of just plus 5 attack. plus 3 attack can be made up with a Meat Mithkabob.
