  • Dragoon positives?

Although my mind is finally set on being a DRG, how come all I read are negative posts of DRG's complaining and whining constantly? Are there any benefits to a DRG which set us apart? Any high levels (45+) here who know the ropes who could help out? (Any level can answer just asking higher ones especially.)

I hear you on that. This forum is pretty discouraging for anyone planning on being a DRG. One thing to keep in mind is that while forums are great for info and strategy, it's never a good idea to make big game decisions solely based on 2nd hand forum information. You never know, you might find success where others haven't.

Ive got WAR and SAM leveled as subs, and as soon as i get WHM up to 37 its DRG all the way, despite what ive read in this forum. If in the future i decide DRG was a poor choice it will be from my own experience and not from others.

Well I suppose it is discouraging to hear from people who have played for a while the problems/downsides with the job, but I think the idea is eventually some of the problems will be remedied (hopefully). It just seems a job that wasn't given a lot of foresight which tends to happen in games like this i.e. not proficient in many weapon skills, and the second best ranked weapon is poor damage in general and weak weapon skills. Low abilities/traits compared to other jobs, but not a huge deal since many jobs don't have many abilities or traits. Questionably useful 2 hour ability that has a fairly big level gap where its not so useful - I'll grant you AF bp helps wyvern survivability on low damage ae monsters, but there are simply monsters that it will die to fairly fast, no real way around that. While many higher levels will say versatility in skillchains doesn't matter post 65 (true enough), its pretty weak at lower levels and very limited so DRG isn't always an ideal choice in a group depending what your party chooses to exp on. The damage penalty to undead doesn't really matter a ton until 70+ really since before then undead really aren't the best choice to exp on anyway, but the alternatives to exping on undead to 75 mostly rely on having Zilart missions completed - if you are a casual player who doesn't do many things besides just exp or have no interest in reaching end game content then this is a downside though the definition of casual is sort of up in the air if you reach 75. Of course if you are like many who intend to get to the end game content and do as much of it as possible, then it isn't a problem.

However melee damage is pretty decent, seems to be the most accurate melee job of them all with comparable equipment. A lot of parties other jobs have a hard time keeping up with me in TP gain in exp parties because of this, and due to the difference in accuracy often end up more damaging than certain jobs but again it varies with what you are fighting, equipment quality etc. The agro removal jumps are plenty good and make Dragoons easily one of the most if not the most survivable damage dealer. Dragoons are also the only truly viable high level soloer besides BST with the right equipment and sub job, other jobs simply will never be able to do that at higher levels. Multiple multi hit ws are good for TP return which helps supplement damage at higher levels without messing up skillchain frequency (again, reliant on having good equipment).

Personally I see the downsides and I like the job anyway, otherwise I would just play something else. I put a good bit of effort into having good equipment which helps me do my job well in parties, and a well equipped well played DRG is definately an asset to a party...though that applies to any damage dealer really. It is a very 1 dimensional job however in many ways, and that needs to be accepted if you are going to truly enjoy playing a Dragoon. I think if anything the posts are also to inform people if you want to be a DRG, you aren't a l33t damage dealer with a wyvern, there are downsides and this isn't a god class by any means, but not utterly awful either.

        Nice post weezing pipes.

Only thing is that you said "It seems to be the most accurate job"

That is possible..if drk don't get any equipment, but there are so many pieces of armor that drk can use and seriously the more acc the drk gets the more dmg they do.My real point is that DRK are overall the most acc melee between DRK and DRG.

        my two cents.

I think the accuracy bonus trait is a percentile gain, like other whatever bonus traits are so the gain is in fact higher compared to other jobs. Not like DRG is especially short on +accuracy items at higher levels either even compared to DRK.

Thanks all, you are right weezing, we are not Leet nor are we crap. We are a fun, in the middle melee fighter with high survivability. if we go for it I'm sure we could challenge DRK damage and that acc+ trait has to come in handy! I've seen wyverns at work and they aren't at all bad as people say, as long as you hal after you've WS'ed healing your Wyvern wont slow down the PT.
