any DRG out there who beat Maat have a general strategy for beating him? i tried it once and got killed, though i was only Lv67 at the time i tried it. here's what i tried...

equip:
grand knight lance
drachen armet
assault jerkin
drachen finger gauntlets
tiger trousers
drachen greaves
2x sniper rings
2x coral earrings
merman gorget
lifebelt
beak mantle

i did the opo opo necklace trick with sleep pots before i engaged him for 100% tp. had my wyvern presummoned and had my 2hr up so i could resummon when she died.

i got in and used Penta Thrust, then hit a couple times before i had to Super Jump after he used his WS. turned auto lock off so my wyvern could keep hate while i used hi-potions and my icarus wing. but my wyvern died too quickly and i was still at orange hp so i resummoned and used Penta again in hopes that i'd make him give up. no such luck. used up my jumps and had 96% tp before he WS me again and killed me. he was at around 30% hp when i died.

what i'm thinking is to use Carapace set for the latent effects and possibly Phalanx rings for even more def. maybe a Bloody lance in hopes of leeching hp from him, but with my experience of additional effects, they don't go off too often in a battle, if at all. so... any tips? i'm not exactly rich so i can't afford numerous tries all in one day, so i'm hoping to maybe do it on my next try. thanks for any help @_@;;

I wore the Carapace body. Try and rack up as much defense as you can, HQ defense food, Phalanx Rings, JSE. Drink selbina milk.
Sleep TP until you have like 200, use a Penta. Don't eat yuor TP wing yet. Turn to his wyvern and use both jumps, that SHOULD kill it, if not, one more swing will.
From here, it's attrition. As soon as he uses his first WS after this, s-jump. Let selbina milk regen HP for you as long as your wyvern can hold out. Once it's dead, eat a X Potion and turn and fire Penta. If he doesn't die, eat your Ica Wing and hope you aren't dead.......

I wore sniper rings x 2 if you lost its not because of your choice in rings. Just wear your AF. Go with what got you there.

maat prepares one-inch-punch
me use super jump (macro tells me i'm at 0 hp o.O)
maat use one-inch-punch 250 dmg

duration of the fight let me use 2 and a half swing where 1 miss and one hit...

Can't you buff prior battle, or they will all wear off when entering BC?

When my friend went in he got buffed by a SMN and WHM, and he told me it was a piece of cake...

He wore:

Carapice Head
Carapice Body
Switch to AF Helm when doing WS
TP wings
sleeping potion/ opopo necklace
all DRG type equipments (GK, snipers, amenit)
X potion
HQ fish kabob & Milk...

He actually told me he had excess potions and had to resell... 0/7? now ur scaring me ><;

2 jumps wont kill the wyvern even with meat kabobs on

Won tonight. Brought 21 Hi Potions, used Icarus wing and fish kabob as I entered, and just Penta a lot til I won. Ignored wyvern and mashed potions, ended up using 10, won in 1 min 53 seconds. Guess I got lucky on the WS, only did Spinning Attack and Howling Fist (first for 100 something, second for 400 something). Was pretty easy truth be told, though probably would've been bad if he went ws happy. Just glad its over!

Equipment is basically the same except no Carapace bp like some mentioned. Phalanx rings are worth it though, so is def foods.

Finally he ate dust...

Brought and used 8 hi-potions 1 x-potion 4 sleep potions 1 selb milk and fish chiefkabob

sleep > 100% tp
walk in and hit him, he hits me back and i weapon block him (god that made my day), hit him again and dodges his next attack.

after the quite funny start i hit him 3 times then he summoned his wyvern, turned and gave it my penta (my wyvern used breath on maat and he complained and such, quite funny and then he used a high dmg multihit WS on me aparently he was pissed over beeing toasted by my wyvern), used jump and high jump on maat then hit him till i had 100% TP and super jumped with 400 hp left (all hi-potions used up now also), intended to let my wyvern tank him a bit... but maat seemed to have learned a trick from me and nearly killed my wyvern in 1 WS seconds after i landed on the ground, i ate X-potion sending me to 650 hp and turned to Maat and poked him... then he gave up ^^ did'nt even use penta on maat

Guide

1: sleep > 100% (4 sleep potions needed)
2: hit maat 5 times and eat one hi-potion after each attack you make (4 hi-potions needed)
3: maat shold summon wyvern now, so turn on it and use penta and it will die (only 4 connects needed to take it down so even if you miss one you will still kill it)
4: Jump and High jump on maat (he should use WS on you now)
5: hit maat untill you have 100% TP and then use Super Jump (you should eat last 4 hi-potions during this time depending on how high dmg WS maat used against you)
6: let your wyvern hit maat till either maat or your wyvern drops to the ground
7: if maat is still standing after your wyvern is down use Penta and he will go down

It's not the fastest way to kill him but it's prety safe and easy, hope this helps anybody that cant get the other guides to work ^^
