I know their are a few posts regarding this subject, but I wanted to give my own experience with this job as a support. Before I start, I am not putting down this support, in fact its quite viable. However, I want to alleviate some of the misconceptions that have been spread on these boards and other people alike. I often get tells by random people saying, Drg/Sam is the best 60+. Sadly, a lot of people share this belief as well. Most of the people who think Sam sub is godly, does not even have a 60+ character or tested this themselves. With that said:
1. I believe one of the biggest disappointment of using Samurai sub, that has not been covered in all the posts I read is Meditate used as a sub. How many of you are actually aware Sam sub using Meditate yields only 60% TP @ 12%/tick vs. 100% TP @ 20%/tick as Samurai main? This I believe is the biggest problem of Sam sub, and why it is extremely over rated.
2. The store TP is quite nice, I must admit. You gain 69% from a full hit Penta and roughly 14% a swing. But if you think about it, Double Attack goes off Once every 6 hits for me, and that 9% is nothing compare to the extra TP you gain from Double Attack. So I believe this trait gets balanced out.
3. Aside from Meditate and Innate Store TP, you don't have too many abilities that could be used. Demon circle, Resist Blind, Third eye, nothing too useful. Consequently, you make full use of every ability a Warrior sub has to offer: Berserk, Defender, Double Attack, Provoke, War Cry (70).
Now before all you Sam sub lovers start flaming me, I want to say Sam sub is viable, and useful in certain situations. I noticed at least 100-150 decrease in WS dmg using Sam sub vs War sub. These certain situations must Incl. the use of a Brd, another 2nd Provoker in the group, BCNM, and some HNM encounters. When I get Wheeling Thrust next level, I may consider using Sam sub all the time, due to the non existant TP return. This will allow me greater Renkei flexbility in setting up 2x Lv3 Renkeis.
Overall, I have not found Sam sub all that its cracked out to be. I'm not saying Sam sub sucks, its just not as good as everyone thinks it is when compared to a much more viable Support job: Warrior. Personally, I think the biggest problem of using Sam sub is the lack of Fuidama versatibility that I have enjoyed for all these levels. My PT consists of: Whm, Rdm, Brd, Pld, Thf, Myself. I rarely have another melee in my group, and if I were to use Sam sub, hate control gets thrown out the window. It is too unpredictable to rely on WS solely to turn a Mob to set up Fuidama. Sometimes you miss a few hits, or do low dmg, and the mob stays on the Pld. I just haven't been able to do fuidama effectively with a Sam sub. It can turn "sometimes" but not always, and that's very bad when grouped with a Thf. In order to make Sam sub work for me, I had to replace Rdm with a Ninja, and than Ninja sets up fuidama. The problem with this setup is that, the Whm gains too much agro from being the only healer. Either way, I'll play around more and see how this Sub works out. Don't get me wrong, Drg/Sam is better than all the retarded combos that I have seen. But when compared to War sub, I dont think it matches up to par with what it has to offer.
