Will miss more with a warrior than a Dragoon because they aren't as skilled at it as dragoons. Honestly when leveling a warrior you should use Great Axes, not polearms. When leveling a new job it isn't hard at all to raise that jobs' primary weapon skill. This is a common thing many new players do and I'm not sure exactly why they do it, because it honestly doesn't take long to raise weapon skills anyway. Using Great Axe has some useful WS early on that will help your exp gain more so than dealing crappy damage with a spear will, and the lack of useful WS. Even when I level my war sub I use Great Axes even though spear is always capped for the warrior - the performance with Great Axes is just better.

Oh also wanted to add, you are level 11 fighting Lizards in Valkurm? Of course you will miss more using a lower rank weapon fighting what is IT at that level (I am fairly sure those lizards are IT at 11). Shield Break is useful when fighting those at your level since it helps everyone lands hits better, polearms don't get anything like that early on.

I have done the same way with my warrior than you. First if your skill not maxed you will miss alot, second Lizard have high def and you been level 11 they must be IT so it explain your lack of hit. Check the mob before pull and once debuff (if mage use Dia on it) if the def still high you will have a harder time to hit it. Don't worrie to much about getting Polearm very high for your Dragoon, skill go up pretty fast. So use that axe or great axe as a warrior, it will give you a little edge over high def mob.

I know what you mean buddy, I'm a training WAR ot go DRG. To get into the DRG mentality I picked up a Polearm,it adds creativity to the usual warrior set up and also does more a lot damage than my old crappy sword! Other players have commented that they like the fact that i am using a unique weapon and Double thrust and thunder thrust find their place easily in skill chains. This also helps me in training as it also help to raise my parry skills in advance. other players aren't picky about what weapon a warrior uses since they can use em all, so it doesnt mater,a ll they want is a tank that is able to hit the target, so use that polearm!! To begin with I missed alot but now I hardly miss,as u WPN skill up Miss goes down.

Great Axe is still better than Polearms at lower levels. Shield break helps a lot more than any polearm skill and its easier to fit Great Axe into skillchains than Polearms for a long time. If you used Great Axe, or even Axe, you'd outdamage polearm. Even before level 15, Great Axe still has better versatility in chains than Polearms. There really is 0 reason to use a Polearm as a warrior, especially low level, over great axes. Great Axes are better damage, better tp return, and more accurate than polearms for warriors. You really aren't doing yourself a favor raising polearm skill when leveling warrior to be a Dragoon later as by the time you get to be a Dragoon, you'll max out Polearm in the first like 20 fights until level 30 or so.

Yeah, I made the mistake of using Polearms as a Warrior. The damage isn't that bad, but for skillchains particularly I wish I had gone with Great Axe.

*shrug* I played my Hume BLM to 25 before starting my WAR, and I didn't really know a lot about weapon proficiencies coming off the mage background :spin:

What's scary is just how many other warriors heading towards 30 are using polearms. No doubt every one of them plans to be a dragoon too

So are you telling me to ditch my maxed polearm for a great axe? How long whould it take me to skill it up? I didnt know about GAxe proficiency either...sso what should I do and how should I go about it?

I can't tell you what to do, but I know what I'd do. Skill up your Great Axe. I'm tempted to do so with mine, even, but I'm only a few experience from level 30 and my advanced job, so it wouldn't really be worth it for me.

If I ever go back to playing a warrior tank, which I very well might do with my Galka, I'm going to level G.Axe.

Before 30 you could get at least halfway through a skill (possibly max it) in 1 exping session. Easiest way to start raising your skill is fighting things which the skill level relates to..good trick for raising skill is use whatever weapon and fight things which check high defense, but not high evasion. Misses = bad skilling up, as your accuracy sucks with a low skill anyway. The gains are fairly good vs high defense monsters, and that is fairly true at a lot of levels.

Ozy, you can solo like crap in Konstacht or something to get your skill up to the point you don't raise skill, then raise it off slightly higher monsters and so on, and just exp in a party and use defender a lot. When I was in skill up parties, I make sure to sub warrior for 2 reasons - Double Attack and Defender. Definately see better skill gain vs things with higher defense, which at higher levels the bonus from defender is enough to change the messages from having no defense modifier to being high defense (this is related to your ATK). If you didn't know when you check a monster and it says high defense or high evasion, evasion is mostly related to your skill level (assuming the check isn't done when its done for example an evasion boost ability), and high defense messages relate to ATK, so basically you wanna find monsters with 1, not the other for skill ups. Also for Great Axe if you can afford it, a Neckchopper is a good axe for skill ups because it has +5 accuracy.

I ended up getting from 29 to 31 today, so I'm not going to bother with Great Axe skill. It's straight to Dragoon from here
