  • Is mithra drg/war worth starting a char over??

Hi. Have an elvaan drg/war. Stat differences at level 70 drg/war for mithra vs elvaan are:

    Mithra 71 str, 77 dex
    Elvaan 83 str, 60 dex

But to be realistic, let's try level 30:

    Mithra 34 str, 36 dex
    Elvaan 40 str, 28 dex

Preferred food of choice in both cases are meatkabobs, giving +5 str, so...

    Mithra 39 str, 36 dex
    Elvaan 45 str, 28 dex

Assume that equipment is the same, because we will not get into the whole argument about 'equipment will even out the stats', because, one, dex/acc equipment is ungodly expensive, and two, simple math says that Mithra will always be ahead in the dex/acc game.

Now tell me, how does 6 str compare against 8 dex? There is a reason why tiger stoles are so cheap in comparison to spike necklaces, even though tiger stoles give +5 attack vs the +3 dex on spike necklaces. The reason is something that even a lowbie like myself can understand (having played similar online games where accuracy was king), and it is this:

The accuracy of hits is more important than the damage dealt per hit. The more hits you land, the more damage you are doing. Also, tp is charged at a fixed rate based on weapon, not on damage dealt, and I understand that weapon skills become extremely important at higher levels. Also, it was said that pentathrust is something that dragoons live for at level 49, and that ws depends on accuracy to hit and give back tp.

So, that said, what do you guys think about starting over a level 19/9 drg/war? I mean, make a mithra from scratch, power her up using my resources, then transfer all my stuff over to her when she's good to go. It'll probably take 2 weeks of play to do all that, I think. More if I want to eat or sleep, lol. Think it's worth it, so that I get the highest possible dex for a dex-dependent job?
I still do not have Barblind.

    elv is better...

mithra looks better on paper when mithras draw it out for you, but elv will always get picked before mithra.

Basically, regardless of race, you're gonna be using the same equipment. Just because you're mithra doesn't mean you don't need +acc and dex; you'll need it just as much.

I'm Elvaan. I have hardly any accuracy issues. I still crit often. In general I hit really hard. It really isn't as bad as it looks for Elvaan, once ya get 30 it gets a lot better accuracy wise.

By the way, saying Dragoons are a dex based job is sort of misleading. Thief is DEX based because it has one of its primary functions, Sneak Attack, related to DEX. No Dragoon abilities are dex dependant. Dragoons are as dex dependant as any other melee job, not more so. If anything Dragoons have more room to work with equipment due to the accuracy bonus trait. Also, just like other stats work, they don't just have 1 function. STR isn't just there for extra ATK, it really does help you hit harder. Try out using a Tiger Stole and then try a Spike Necklace and pay attention to your average hits. I read somewhere higher damage weapons gain larger STR bonuses than lower damage weapons, which means since Polearms/Scythes etc are high damage, then those users benefit more from higher STR. I lack the gil to test this more extensively but it seems to be working so far with the small differences.

i wouldn't change just for the stats. elvaan drg is pretty darn good after they get to lv30+. i partied with a few and they do their job great.

i'd only change though if you think you'd have more fun with mithra. i have to say, mithra is very very fun for people with goofy personalities. i am wierd and i like watching catgirls impale/dice up sh*t with a heavy ass weapon. and the goofy emotes make me laugh. watch a kitty do /panic and decide if you wanna be one...lol.

Dex is not thief based for sneak only, dex is something you should have a mix of with acc, DEX also affects the speed of attacks, the more you have hte faster you attack, affects your critical rate and accuracy and im sure affects more.

Not sure where people got that idea that DEX affects attack speed. I've also heard AGI affects attack speed. SO WHICH IS IT?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!

More to the point, DEX affects your accuracy and your critical hit rate. To my knowledge, it helps Sneak Attack damage...and that's it.

Thanks everyone, I've decided not to remake, and can breathe a huge sigh of relief. Hey Awntawn, I went and messed around on the DRK board and I saw this post:

This was basically the deciding factor in my decision to remain as Elvaan, but everybody else's input really helped stave off that urge to delete the char and remake. Thanks again, everybody.

I good player could make it a good character regardless of race. Play what you enjoy, fun is the most importent factor in a game, if you aren't enjoyinh it then you're just wasting your time.

Personally I play with a Mithra Dragoon, I haven't had any damage issues, I normally do around double other melee's damage unless I'm with DRKs then they slightly pip me to the post. Accuracy could be better though.

In all seriousness is anyone else getting sick of these what race questions, pick what you want man, if you like elvaan be it like you decided now. Everyrace will have advantages over others and have weeknesses, square made the game balanced, the only thing i think i could never be is a Galkan mage, thats about it i mean i know you can make them work but thats the only thing i would never make myself.
