  • Any techniques on keeping my wyvern alive?

I'm a lvl 18 DRG right now and I've found that it's getting hard to keep Lumiere alive. I end up resting in between alot of battles which depletes my TP. And when when my party makes me tank and pull (even though we have another WAR in the party god knows why they made me tank. Only happened once.) I die farely quickly =/ So in my case even though I have a WAR sub I still can't tank. I'm thinking of switching to THF sub just so no one ever tells me to pull and tank again -.- But anyway, back to subject, do you have any techniques on keeping your wyvern alive with low downtime? I try to avoid goblins, but parties insist on hunting them. And 1 bomb toss cut's Lumiere's HP to half.

Why bother summoning it at all then if you're going to fight goblins. Sounds like at level 18 you're doing goblins and the occasional Flies in Valkrum. Don't even bother having your wyvern out, it's just going to die. There's no special technique to keep it alive when you're chaining those types of AE mobs.

Even with AF chest armor I can't keep my wyvern alive when a terror pugil does Aquaball 3x in a row.

This doesn't apply to Gobs, but I usually end up behind the enemy because of THF habbit, so i didn't realize this before. Were were fighting Lizards in the dunes. They have a poison breath attack. It's not a circle AOE. I's more like a cone. So if you can get your wyvern in the back, it will save hom from getting poisoned which you can't get rid of with spells.

A drg should be the last one pulling.

I found that a problem, especially when when you have idotic tanks in your party who pull IT damsels when you've told them not to or Goblins when you're Wyvern doesn't have any HP left (I even sat out of that battle, but I still got caught by the bomb). Just rest when you can, you'll loose TP but your wyvern does more damage, just get your party to fight easier (none AoE attacking) mobs if you want to store some TP up.

Think of your wyvern as an RDM with maxed out skill in his weapon. That's the sort of damage output you can expect from it.

In other words, it's nice to have, but no group is going to make or break without it. Don't hold up your group's renkei because poor Wyvern is going to die.

Chances are, if your wyvern gets hurt, it's going to get hurt some more. Sitting after every battle as a Dragoon is tantamount to shitty exp mm'kay?

Some mobs like lizards and crawlers use front AE Arc poisen attacks. You'll want to position it behind or on the side of the mob to avoid it, this is much easyer to do solo then in grp.

Some mob types, Flies, goblins come to mind, its like the above poster stated, not even worth summoning it. I won't summon it so i can always call on it for a tough fight when it doesnt look too good, kinda using it like the other jobs use their 2 hour. It will only live for that fight and possible the next, but it may have saved a life with its added damage for that close fight.
