  • Dragoon questions

I know this is kinda a opinonated topic, but thats what im asking for. For people who have tried these, what do you conisder more fun, a PLD/WAR or DRG/WAR..

I even thought of being a bard..

    Are dragoons wanted in parties?

Are DRGs more exspensive to upkeep then a PLD?

Does the Wyvern give you a advantage over other meeles like DRK or SAM?

just some questions of mine, cause theres so many dam classes..
narrowed it to 3 interesting ones:
    brd/whm
    pld/war
    drg/war

    >_<

I'm a Drg and never ever have a problem finding a party

and I dont think its very costly to keep it up but I've always had lots of gil so depends on how good you are at farming

for sub Sam is the best in the long run but it takes awhile

Sig is CLF and his gilseller buddies fighting Serket, CLF was tanking.

It depends. On Fairy, at my level, I'm rarely getting invites and I'm being forced to start PTs. It could be a problem with a lack of players available, though.

I personally think they're cheaper to upkeep than a PLD as:
      1. Armor is not a huge concern to upgrade. Weapon takes huge priority over it, although it helps (Worth noting, a lot of their armor should be stat based.. DRG needs dex/acc. and str/atk, which can be costly at times)
      2. They don't wear plate or other heavy armor (Which tends to be costly.. look at the price between chain and brass scale)

Does the Wyvern give you a advantage over other meeles like DRK or SAM?
That's in the eye of the beholder. It's an advantage at times, and others a crutch. (Like goblins. wyvern =:dead: ) You don't really NEED to have one all the time, but it helps.

on fairy too, looks like people are still experimenting with jobs. Until people find one they like I imagine you wont see a ton of people over 30.

Dragoons get weaponskills that renkie very well with thiefs? i think is what it is, and do some of the higher end skill effects. So yes you will be wanted in parties for exp.

I just got DRG last night (happy new year to me!) and I am really iking it so far. I think the Wyvern gives you a slight advangtage then other melees in at least the lower levels. It gives you extra damage against monsters to help battles move along faster so you get more xp, and you are also able to win some battles that you wouldn't be able to win alone. The breath attack after your ws is very nice! Of course I am only level 8 so far so things may change but I did get to level 8 very quickly thanks to my wyvern. Hope that helps!

P.S. He has only died twice so far!
Destiny is calling...will I be able to answer?

You can't really get a valid answer when asking what is more "fun", because different people consider different things fun. You are basically comparing a damage dealer, a tank, and a support character, so it isn't really a question which could be answered without some bias.

To answer the question, Dragoons are as wanted in parties as Samurai are as wanted as Dark Knights as Monks are wanted..etc. Its a substitutional damage dealer class which can be filled in by multiple different jobs. Different people have differing opinions about which is "best" and why, but they are all good in their own right. From my experience, DRK has a lot of skills which work with a lot of other weapon skills which gives them more versatility in making an always useful renkei. I find DRG in comparison doesn't have the same versatility, but they can renkei with thf well which few jobs can do. They also get hate lessening/removal jumps which helps be a better damage dealer as you can get away with churning out the hits and not be a heal soak, which SAM/DRK for example do not have the same luxury.

As to whether DRG is cheaper than PLD..you don't buy spells but many + accuracy items at higher level (Sniper Rings, Life Belt) are fairly costly, but they are important to being an effective damage dealer as misses with a 2 hand weapon = costly to your overall output. I find polearms are reasonably inexpensive compared to some weapons, but it depends on server AH prices more than anything. Cost of equipment has never been a factor to me in any job I play though so..

As to whether the Wyvern gives you an edge over other melee..sort of. I find the first 30 levels of a Dragoon, you are relatively powerful, can use wyvern basically 100% of the time without encumbering your party with time spent healing it. From 30-50 or so, you fight more things with area of effect attacks (breaths, bombs, cursed sphere etc) which really hurts the wyvern. During this time is when a DRG should learn to operate without their wyvern. While many cannot deal with the fact that spending 5 minutes healing your wyvern every fight (because that is literally about how long it takes me now to heal my wyvern after fighting say a goblin who bombs 4 times) isn't efficient to a party, its simply something that must be accepted. Party needs -> wyvern. So during the 30-50 range, you could say the dragoon is a bit weaker than some other jobs damage wise. Of course by the time you get Pentathrust and Super Jump, you are going to be a substantial damage dealer who can do it without just being a liability to the party, and that makes it all worth it. The usage of the wyvern is entirely dependant on what you fight, so learn what it is you are fighting and decide accordingly. For example through the 30-40 range if you only fight crawlers, you can get away with using the wyvern as their only damaging attack is poison breath, and a smart tank who positions so your wyvern doesn't get hit by breath improves wyverns survivability drastically, and therefore improves your efficiency by not having to burn TP healing the wyvern. In such a situation, a wyvern is a nice bonus to damage. Just remember if you are still healing your wyvern by the time your group is ready to pull the next thing which is going to almost kill your wyvern again, its time to learn to fight without it.

            Hope this is helpful!

You can do 30-50 w/o having to fight a single monster with an damaging AoE attack as far as I know.
