  • usefulness of what makes a dragoon a DRAGOON

    Just want to know.
Dragoons are also known as Dragon knights and their jobs is to kill in the most effecient way dragons, but are there that many dragons in Vana'Diel or they are just a few(under 15) number of NM or HNM.
Don't get me wrong, ill pruse the way of the dragoon as soon as I can(want to be DRG/RDM), but I want if parties woul consider their abilities as dragon slayers and dragons defender(no protect them, but protect party from them)?

There are a couple Dragons, not a whole lot. The AF armor does give stat boosts for tanking dragons but DRG shouldnt tank...

When you get a paladin...do you only get them because you might fight a wight, or banshee? When yu party a DRK do you do so because they can use Arcana defense? Its just a little bonus you get for being that class. Their main ability is the dragon, and jump. They can do damage, then shed the hate with super jump...what a DRK needs to be invincible.

There are (correct me if I'm wrong) 9 Dragons in the game.

        3 Kingdom Mission Dragons
        DRG quest Dragon
        Shadow Dragon in Xarcabard
        Bune (HNM)
        Ash Dragon (HNM)
        Fafnir (HNM)
        Vouivre (HNM)

A level 70 Dragoon will not be picked to fight a HNM Dragon over a Paladin, you will be lucky to get invited along at all. Ancient Circle and Dragon Killer aren't that effective (although all Circle and Killer abilities are being upgraded next patch)

The only dragon you can conceivably fight regularly is the one in Xarcabard, and really, you just won't be doing that. There are Wyverns in Ifrits Cauldron who fall under dragon type, but you won't be spending a great amount of time in that torture chamber.....

I hate to break it to you, but I really doubt Dragoons will be picked for a PT on the basis of their Dragon killing and protection abilities. In the high end, you're picked because you're the "other melee" which is often classified along Drk's, Mnk's, Sam's, etc. Since Pentathrust and Skewer combos quite nicely with Thf, this is the sole reason why we get invited to PT's, not because of our Dragon abilities. They're more of a roleplaying, novelty skill that we have. It fits our description. In terms of practiability however, it is close to useless (again except for the Applied and Limited Situations that Ayako so kindly pointed out).

This is also why I always use Arcane Circle while we're fighting bats or crabs =p Humour me! Makes me feel useful hehe

That's exactly what I said......why are you arguing with me..only to say the same things? The circle and killer abilities are just bonuses...a cherry on top of the sundae.

              your off topic.

"usefulness of what makes a dragoon a DRAGOON"

we do kick butt damage and we don't have to worry about hate as much, so we're free to do more damage than all classes except ranger. And our strong WS's renkei with thieves n' such.
              63 dragoon , 31 white mage, 30 warrior, 13 monk, 10 samurai, 5 thief.

I understand what you all said and agree, but my point of view don't go to partying or powers of a dragoon's abilities, but the name itself and its background. If we're not supposed to be hunting dragons, we would be called jump warriors, or dragon tamers(for the wyvern) {i know, i'm not good at creating names} or something that reference to our jumping abilities or the fact we have a wyvern. Maybe im arguing for nothing, but don't blame me, i'm in a boring class and i need to stay awake.

Dragoons have been around for so long in Final Fantasy. People think dragoon they are gonna think of a polearm useing, jumping, high damage attacker. No one calls paladans undead killers, they are high defence tanks.

                    exactly.

i'm choosing to be a drg mostly just because of the rp aspects of it. i loved cain in ffiv, i loved freya even more in ffix. i just love drgs, and all that come with them. hoorah for me
