  • Dragoon helpless without wyvern?

Ive heard many ppl complaining about losing a wyvern early off at low lvls without your wyvern you cant do nearly as much damage. Recently becoming a dragoon I have had one occasion where my wyvern died 15 mins in from then on I was basically a warrior with jumps :dead: which slowed the lvling process significantly. I know at higher lvls it is easier to keep your wyvern alive because of regen, increased hp and so on. What I want to know is if you lose your wyvern for any reason what so ever (renting chocobo, death etc.) is your attack power diminshed horribly?

Since only two classes rely on pets for firepower DRG/BST. Killing off a wyvern hurts a DRG much more then a BST losing his pet.

    Thx in advance for responses.

I have never had a problem with losing him, but it was so rare in the early lvls. I mean you see that your Wyv has little life Heal up. What is so hard bout that ?

Also I am a DRG/RDM For some reason I found it eaiser during the early lvls of the DRG life because I had dia to help me out. Well I subbed WHM first till I I was able to sub the RDM for the use of Heal and I have loved DRG/RDM ever since. But it will become tuff later in your DRG life once you get penta. Either way you need to have the WAR in a high 20 lvl. Of which is so blah to me he he

It has kinda been out of my control the times the wyvern has taken damage. When you initiate fighting with a miss your wyvern hits next usually the the enemy which has the hate placed on the wyvern then because of your missing and if you keep missing and dont have provoke exp. DRG/THF then your wyvern is going to take heavy heavy damage if not die this has been my only experience with close calls and the one time death. You asked what is hard about keeping it alive because of little life heal up? Do you mean it heals fast when resting or it has little life to heal up to being with? If that is the case wouldnt it die faster then too when getting hit in situations of chain misses?

Well it really depends. During early life yea It was a little harder to keep him alive because it was just you and him. If he hits the mob then it will get the hate.(And I missed ALOT in my younger life in fact I still miss alot now lol) In later lvls, I rarely need to rest for the hate is never on her.

But in those early lvls just heal up after fights. I mean yea lvling is a pain during the young life but it gets better.

Your wyvern is apart of you. your soul mate. do not summon your wyvern into a situation where he/she may die. Like flies in valkrum....

before level 30ish, ya we aren't that great without wyvern. At level 30 our accuracy bonus makes us greatER. At 49, i still do crazy damage when I want even without Jessie's aid. And when i get the 3 points more I need for penta thrust (dinged 49 then loged ><; ) that will hold true at a higher level.

Basically what I'm saying is eventually your wvyern is just a nice addition, not a needed componet. We're still totally gnarly dude without them.

You WILL lose your wyvern a lot during lvls 1-10. This is because your Wyvern will Rarely miss, while you can't hit the far side of the barn. At lvl 10 (assuming you have War sub), Provoke will help tremendously. Also, AE damage will become your worst nightmare.....especially when you're starting a Renkei chain (which is often the case).

Even if you're just a "warrior who can jump" you'll still be doing crazy damage. At lvl 24, I'm doing roughly 70 dmg Jumps, 40-50 regular hits, 80-90 critical hits.

If you stick to mostly easys and decents during the lowlevels your wyvern wont die. You wont miss as much and you will kill so fast you will get the message telling you have to wait before attacking something else often

Wyvern is the ultimate farming partner in my opinion.
Mass slaughter of 18-36xp monsters with your wyvern not getting hurt is a great way to rack up alot of loot so you can afford upgrading your spear every couple levels.

Fighting harder stuff does mean more misses and a dead wyvern or resting alot to keep his hp full.

Dragoon still kicks butt without wyvern, but I do notice he is a good amount of damage when he is by my side.

the wyvern is only approx 33% of your DPS at those lvls
losing it hurts but not too much. if it really bothers you so much log out for a couple of hours.

Personally I would never stop playing and log out if i didnt have my wyvern. I wouldn't expect a group to constantly wait on the wyvern to heal up after every fight if he was getting hurt either.

A dragoon without a wyvern isn't gimp, and I would never pass on adding a dragoon to the party that didnt have their wyvern up.
