  • Job progression to Drg

I am in beta right now but I'm doing some planning for US release.
    Tell me what ya think

    Mithra
    Red Mage to lvl 18
Warrior or Monk /sub RDM to 30+
    DRG /sub warrior or monk

Any pros to Warrior vs Monk?

If i have a warrior and work on polearms, will that give an advantage towards the lance when i start the DRG?

What effect do stats have at higher levels, Dex, Str, etc...? Will having a lower STR or DEX restrict damage at higher levels?

Thanks in advance for your imput.

    RDM

so far most of my career is solo and RDM seems best suited for that. I like the debuffs and cures but i can definatly see how unuseful subbing RDM would be with a WHM or BLM main in a group. The RDM would only be used as a sub for the warrior or mnk until i hit 30 and got the DRG job. Thanks for the imput.

Why would you want WAR as a sub? That is the question.

Level monk, then thief, then sub thief for Dragoon, then kick ass to your heart's content.

I'm a mithra DRG/THF and I kick pure ass, love it.
I really should thank you for it afterall it was your life that taught me the purpose of all life.....Purpose of life, is to end.

Interesting, I was just re-planning my own progression. Since I plan to play both Paladin and Dragoon, I had for the longest time envisioned: WHM->18; WAR/WHM->30; then PLD/WAR or DRG/WAR depending on how I feel that particular day  The reason for the initial WHM is to learn some white magic early on so I don't have to blow the gil on scrolls later when I'm a PLD.

Now, however, when I consider that I'm going to be playing DRG more than PLD and that I really prefer Red Mages to White Mages in any case, (plus all the WAR/WHM bashing that's going on has to mean something), I revised my progression by replacing WHM in all instances with RDM. This way I get to work on 1h sword and other such weapons for the 1st 18 levels, which helps Warrior slightly more. It also seems that WAR/RDM makes for a better job combo as far as battle power is concerned. Of course, WAR/RDM is not a good permanent setup; it's strictly transition material. The goal is to make those 30 levels go as efficiently as possible without to many road blocks.

Importers, any comments? It's great to have the thoughts and input of the much-revered StarvingArtist ... also, any appraisals of the gameplay time involved for the progressions we're discussing?

          Drg/War to your heart's content.
That's a very good route, along with Razz's suggestion. What I would do, however, is eliminate leveling monk altogether. Something like:

          THF to 18+
          WAR/THF to 30+
          DRG/WAR or THF

          or

          WAR to 18+
          THF/WAR to 30+
          DRG/THF or WAR

MNK isn't a very good melee sub job for DRG. You're better off having a THF, WAR, or SAM sub.

As for your strength and dexterity question:
STR increases your maximum melee (and possibly bow) damage capability. DEX increases your accuracy as well as your critical hit rate.

Exactly what I was thinking I figured that the first 30 or so levels would be only slightly harder than going for MNK first, but it would pay off in the end because you end up with 2 useful subs for your main instead of only 1.

Yeah, Starv and Hamster are right.

Your best bet would be to level Thief/War to 30, then you can alternate so your War can get to 30. Subjobs sorted then.

Whatever happens, just make sure you have War, Thf and (if you want) Sam ready as subs.

thanks for the great advise. i never really thought thief would be in the mix but it is sounding more and more interesting. tell me, what benefits do you get from having thf as a sub.

                thanks much

increased DEX and sneak attack, which allows your WS to hit hard (double thrust at least, havent tried it with Penta).
