Skip Valkyrie's Mask for now?

With school coming up again, I won't have that much time for exp parties except on weekends and low HW days. One goal was to save up for 1 sniper ring by 40, which I did. Valkyrie's Mask is level 43, I think. Right now, it's around 300k at my server. I'd also like to get a second Sniper Ring as well. I was thinking about getting the mask around 45, and the 2nd ring by at least 50, but now I'm thinking about getting the ring 1st. My 41 drk is my highest job right now, so I'm still limited to where I can farm; most of the time I farm as my thf/rng.

I have a few friends who like doing BCNM runs every now and then, and before my drk hit 40, they'd do BCNM 30 with me. Now that I'm 40, I'm able to do BCNM 40 with them, and a second sniper might help out with that more than the mask. Money is still an issue, but with the low amount of time I'll have for PT groups, I'll usually spend that farming. So would it be wise to get the Valkyrie's mask later? If so, when is an acceptable level that I should be required to have it? Thanks for your help.

Honestly, I think this item was created with us & PLD in mind. The MP+10 doesn't hurt, the Atk+7 helps especially when used in tandum with the Sword Belt (Atk+10).

But both of those are Lv.43, and you can't use them for BCNM40's. Nor do I really think you'll need them. PLDs won't be able to keep hate off you anyway, at least they couldn't keep hate off me. lol

I think in the long run, it comes down to how much "milage" you'd get off the items. People wear Lv.40 Sniper Rings from Lv.40-75. I know a number of people that wore the Emperor Hairpin as soon as they could get their hands on it, and wore it until the AF helm.

I skipped the Mask, though I had originally planned to buy one. I wore the Iron Musketeers Armet. (Lv.40 VIT+2) I liked the demonic look it helped give.

So my suggestion would be grab your second Sniper Ring, and find a good Lv.40 Scythe and/or Great Sword for your BCNM40 runs. I went with Mythril +1 for BCNM40's. Ran me 75k, but it paid for itself on my 1st run. Now there's a Scythe that gives Acc+5 I think. If that was around when I was doing BCNMs, I would have bought that one.

Yeah, I bought the Mutilator (+3 accuracy) instead of Mythril or Mythril+1. Fairly cheap for now, but word of mouth might make its price rise.

i dont have the mask and dont plan on it...i dont see how 7 attack is worth 280k....

Its more of a luxury item, rather save that gil for better equipment in other areas or save for a sniper ring.

Funny thing I have been seeing lots of 40s running around with it on thinking there totally awesome when the rest of there gear is horrid.

7 attack for 240k+gil is just "tad" bit extreme.

Yeah, definitely get another sniper ring before you ever plan on getting the mask. I'm wearing one right now. And although the MP+10 is pretty nice, the ATK+7 is hardly noticeable...

The valk mask is one of the most overrated pieces of equipment I have seen. Buying that mask is a huge waste of gil. Don't fool yourself into thinking that you are noticably more effective.

I was laughing at someone's search comment when I was making a PT once, where someone pointed out, in the limited space that you have to advertise yourself, that he had a valk mask. I was like.... Who cares?? How much +acc and dex does the dude have. lol, I just thought it was hilarious to see a 50+ guy advertising the fact that of all things, he had a +7 attack Valk mask.

Are you serious?? lol At Lv.51 I have DEX+13, Acc+15, and Atk+38 I think. And they were proud for Atk+7? lol That's too bad.

Hmmm. Well, from reading the other comments, I think I might just sell mine now. Although I'm not quite sure what piece of equipment I'm going to replace it with. And I know I'm probably going to go through some withdrawls after I sell it since I like to be the best I can be....even if it's not much.

Any suggestions?

i got the mask from the NM while getting the AF3 blood item (NM same area)

i equip it nd saw thats my attack already 400~ without it so i start to think 7 attack is nothing when you have +400 so i sold it :p plus af3 was very good so there is no point to keep the mask

Yep, the AF3 helm is MUCH better than that Valk mask by far. I don't think anyone can really quantify how much more damage +7 attack gets you, but the souleater boost you get from the AF3 helm to finish off those chains is awesome.

If you bust off a souleater, have on an AF3 helm and drop a guillotine, you clearly see the difference.

I have no idea where people got the idea that the mask was something uber. I mean, look at the stats compared to other stuff you can be pimping... maybe people wanted it for looks???

Here's my thought on it. I use the mask and switch over to AF3 when using souleater. Like many say, I also see it as a luxury item. If you have all the needed equip that adds accuracy and have extra money, I would get it. Definately don't get it over a sniper ring.

If +7 Atk and +10 MP isn't worth 250k+ then why would +5 Acc, and +5 R Acc and -10 Def be worth 600k+?

Sniper rings will get you killed.

Sniper rings alone don't make you uber. If you have a life belt and 2 snipers, you have not become the king of +acc. +20 acc is ok, but nto stellar, by any stretch of the imagination in my opinion. Regardless of wether you have snipers or not, you shouldn't be in a position where you are getting hit consistently. If you are getting your ass handed to you all the time, either you are doing something wrong, or your PT sucks.

Sniper rings give you a respectable +acc boost that will help you hit more consistently. They have penalties, of course, but as a DRK, it doesn't matter since your defense generally sucks when you are equipped for XPing as a DD.

I agree that the -10 defense and -20 DRK on those things make for a pretty bad debuff, but if you are not tanking, which you shouldn't be as a DRK in 99.99% of the scenarios, Snipers are your friend. I do think that 500k is insane for snipers, but everyone wants them, and they certainly make you miss less, so they are pretty hard to live without unless you have a BRD or Fenrir on staff all the time.
