is soul eater worth using during norpal exp parties. i never really used it much but this one party i was in had a ranger who was using side winder and he gained tp rediculously fast and would use it twice a battle. i began to use souleater because i would rarely ever get hate even after hitting it 5 or 6 times for 180 damage. so when it is safe to use souleater without getting hit is it worth to use it for exp party...or will the mage have to heal you too much for lost hp and not make it worth it. also if it is good to use souleater should i use it every 5 minutes and just let the paladain cover me? assuming he is not covering a ranger or blm bursting freeze or soemthing.

I hardly ever use souleater anymore, except when going for chain#5 in xp PT (sometimes for chain#4 when fighting high HP mobs)... but it helps kill a mob much faster if the tank has secured the hate and the mages have more than enough mp to heal you... before PLD gets full AF, they would probably need to use cover.. but afterwards, a good PLD can keep the hate pretty well even when you use LR+Souleater and hack away at the mob... even then, I wouldn't recommend using souleater every 5 mins.. the mages will hate you for that.. once (or twice max) every chain is more than enough75DRK/75BRD/42WHM/40WAR/40THF/40BLM/37NIN/30BST/24SAM/15MNK

I use it only in 2 cases:
1.) Last mob of a chain. #4 or #5 depending on the party/prey, do a renkei right away to knock back most of it's HP then engage souleater and try to kill it in time. In this cases, as long as you survive, it doesn't matter if you get aggro since you're about to heal for HP/MP anyway. If you drain after about the second hit you can recover a significant portion of the HP lost (depending on mob type, of course).
2.) Something goes horribly wrong and I NEED to take aggro. Click it on, click it off... very rare, but hey, it happens.
Regardless, I always wait until right after the tank provokes to engage souleater, since provoke is a hate spike that diminishes over time. If you engage it 15 seconds after the provoke and the tank hasn't done anything else, you'll take an unneeded hit.

My strategy after PLD learned flash was keep berserk up at all times, and use Souleater and LR(not stacked) as often as possible in the 2 minute cool down time for berserk.
This worked fine until lv50. Now i find Souleater just gets me killed. Even berserk has goten me killed a few times despite the fact that whenever i pull aggro i imediatly face away from the mob. The last time i used Souleater double attack went off on my first hit, i pulled aggro and had to face away from the mob, and despite PLD and WHM spaming me with cures i still died. I felt like a complete noob.
I like Souleater, i think it is a fun ability and i want to use it. I am looking forward to grouping with PLDs who have AF so i can hopefully use it again. But right now the added dmg just isn't worth the risk imo.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong.. but..
I use souleater all the time in a chaining exp pt.
I aim to put out constant elevated damage output. I'll achieve that with Food, Berserk, Last Resort, and souleater.
I use souleater to close the recharge gap between berserks. So after berserk wears off, I usually go into souleater. That way I only have to wait 2 minutes to get my damage up again. I'm at 54 and I don't seem to have any excessive hate problems.

Yeah, I hardly use souleater. I'm really kind of sad. It does so much damage but you can never use it because it does TOO much damage. Like Mithrael, I only use it if we're on the last chain or the party is in serious trouble and the monster must be killed fast. Too be honest, I kind of see it as a two-hour now. Maybe I don't use it enough.

I can't believe so many people aren't using souleater.
I've found that it works best sometime between the second and third voke (any paladin or ninja could've told you this), as that's sort of the "crest" of a paladin's hate.
That way it doesn't pull the mob off the paladin immediately, and if/when it does turn, it isn't so hard for the pld to get hate back.
Likewise, I let my mages know before I use it, most of the time I'll get a Regen II. It really helps mitigate the HP loss unless double attack procs.

Actually... at higher lvls in exp PT's.. you can turn on SE and not havt it turn the monster. This is because tanks can hold hate and attain hate a lot better.
The only thing that really takes hate is a Thf fuidama'ing, Blm going nuke happy, or Whm spamming Cure 4 or 5's.Full Cursed= O

umm guys why don't u just turn on souleater at the right time,
time it so that u don't get hit more then once or twice, 2-3 hits won't kill you
at lvl 54 fighting in kuftal against crabs, i turn souleater every chance i get when the mob's hp is less then 50%, usually 1/3 hp, i time it usually, see how much dmg my pt can do, souleater goes on whenever the mob will die by the time it hits me 2-3 times. If for some reason i time it wrong and the mob's hp isn't going down fast enough, i quickly cancel souleater and activate defender, also i try to use souleater during my berserk cool down time of 2minutes, if you don't use souleater, what's the point of being a drk? that's where the fun is, when you're kicking the crap out of the mob, just don't own it so much that you'll get owned

I use souleater if the mages have good mp, otherwise it's just a waste. Ending chain's seems to be the best time to use it. Rarely the PT is in dire situation and you have to "just kill" the mob, otherwise I don't use it much. You can be more free to use it with thf sub later on I guess after you SC onto the tank.滅殺

I use souleater in chain #5....useally do Souleater>Sneak>trick>Spinning Slash, then i just keep it on....since i know the mob won't turn cause spinning slash dmg secured the hate to the tank. But on the earlier days, when i had war sub, i useally turn souleater on when the mob is almost dead and the tank has a good hold of the mob. But nowdays, i just use it to end a chain (chain#5). Souleater is great for ripping through a monster when going for chain 5. A lot of times I stack it with Sneak Attack/Trick Attack for added power on my weaponskills, and it also secures the hate onto the tank. At that point, you can leave it on. Of course, the monster is usually pulp by then.
Besides that, I only use Souleater when the tank has control of the monster. Using it when the tank doesn't have aggro isn't smart.
