  • LV65 DRK/THF + THF/NIN dilemma

    I'm a LV65 DRK/THF and I have a semi-perm PT with a 64THF/NIN and BRD/WHM. I know DRK/THF and THF/NIN don't do well together after lv65 but we always PT together (comes with the BRD :p). My question is what would be the most efficient SC to do with this? I've been using Vorpal Scythe to set up Sneak Trick Dancing Edge but now that I have Cross Reaper, my Sneak Cross Reaper does more than Sneak Trick Dancing Edge (~1000 on Processionaires). I believe (LV66 THF)Shark Bite > Cross Reaper causes Distortion which is pretty good but I'm not sure how we'd set it up (usually PT is PLD DRK THF RDM BLM BRD). Any ideas?

    D>P> <M <R<T

    D = DRK, P = PLD, M = Monster, R = RDM, T = THF.

    THF sa+ta+ws onto RDM, then you sa+ta+ws onto PLD, problem solved.

    And before you go 'omgwtfbbq rdm as sneak buddy?' I've done it, and it works, mainly because the monster only gets at most 2-3 hits, easily taken care of by blink (20mp?) and/or stoneskin, before your sa+ta puts hate back on the PLD. I've only had the opportunity to do this once, and it was the most fun I'd ever had in a lvlup party.

    Of course, it was also the most work, too, and I'm not sure if I'd want to make it 'standard' leveling procedure ... rdm's have enough to do as is without having to run to the backline for mp songs, wait for brd to play melee songs, run to the front for renkei, run back and rest, all while doing 'regular' rdm duties, and being main healer, to boot.

      Actually I did Sneak Trick Guillotine recently onto a RDM who volunteered to be my Trick buddy for fun :p. Took 0 damage until the PLD could get the hate back :D. Thanks for the fast reply! Never thought about that. We'll try that when THF gets Shark Bite. Sounds like a ton of damage if we can find RDMs who are willing to do that much work

        DRK/THF * THF/NIN

        Act like it is a matrix and mutiply. In the end you have DRK/NIN.

        This is your best option!
        Listen to yourselves agree and ostracize anyone that actually tries to make a point. You sound like hyenas, or maybe that is just my laughing at you.

          Wow, I've been looking for an anwser to this dilema for a while and now I got one. I'm not close to 65 yet, but I have been curious. My static PT is the same except for the BRD we have a WHM/SMN.

          Also curious as to what SCs can a PT like that do? Any L3 SCs? The PLD can also get in the mix and our THF/NIN can equip a greed scimitar in his on hand if needed.

            it might prove to be better if u do Swift Blade->Crossreaper for Dark renkei. at least renkei-dmg wise, it's a lot better than Shark->Cross Distortion. (100% vs 50%, it's obvious.)

            THF might scream like "wtf, i'm out of renkei!?" but personally, if it does better for a party, then i think he should be.

              What about Light Skillchains? From the chart I can't figure any out with a THF.

                DRK and THF can't make Light or Dark at all so not the most ideal of choices. Bside has probably the best solution. Shark Bite will do decent damage anyway solo sa/ta. However you will have a weaker party set up in the long term especially when/if you get Spinning Slash (which you should by 66). Also it can be difficult to skillchain with a PLD every fight I found. You may want to consider replacing yourself or the THF for the good of the party, just from an efficiency perspective its better to have 2 melee who can do a good skillchain than 2 who can't and rely on PLD to do the good skillchain with you.

                Of course if its a group of friends or whatever and you don't really care about efficiency just do what you normally do.

                  Weezingpipes you're right I was thinking about that too but yea we're friends and the THF comes with the BRD. ^^

                  Having BRD accessible all the time > lvl3 SC maybe

                  I just got a Mythril Heart and I've been lvling GS w/ a RDM... hopefully have close to capped GS before I hit 66 for Spinning Slash..

                  Sucks Shark Bite and Spinning Slash are both Fragmentation though ; ;

                    if such a party "forces" Light renkei, it'll be Red Lotus Blade (PLD)->Raging Fists or True Strike (THF)->Spinning Slash (DRK). (there r other ways w/ other weapons, but this will be the best one among posible chains.) while this will be a nice SC to do against skeletons, due to the low weapon ratings of both H2H and Club of THF, accuracy problem can't be avoided.

                    of course, this assumes that the THF has either of those skills capped, which in reality is highly unlikely unless that THF has a higher lvl main job.

                      Yeah, everyone in my static is really good friends, so I'd rather get slower XP than kick out THF.

                        shark(fuidachi)>cross(fuidama) > Ku distortion>dark
                        pretty strong even if its just fuidachi (500+)

                          sorry for hijacking this thread

                          but i'm really curious:

                          what would be the ideal job to blend in with the drk/thf, assuming genei-jin's thf friend can have access to any job?

                          what is the ideal renkei is this case? :confused:

                            I would say mnk/war, so the skillchain can be red lotus > (i don't know the name of mnk ws that does fusion) > fui spinning slash, for Lv3 Light with 150% renkei damage.

                              DRG/WAR would be really good too right? I'm just guessing because their Wheeling Thrust (Fusion) lowers defense and sets up for Spinning Slash Light SC.
