    Could this work for group/soloing?

My reasoning is that since your main job has already an MP pool, subing a mage would help especially WHM because the job combo could be used as a back-up healer if needed and a fighter. If it's not good, please give me a constructive reason why besides (no one will pick you with that stupid combo).

    Thanks

good for soloing bad for xping. your job is to deal dmg. whm does not do any of that. in a group you should be dealing the most damage you can, not waste your time healilng wehn you have enough healers. there should never be a time where you are relied on as a healer while in groups for xp your healing will be insignifcant. maybe in SOME HNM fights, but thats when weird combos are an exception.

na spells that th whm will have
      .... yeah... usefull

      /war
provoke, later useless but good lowbie levels
      beserk! +atk =good
double attack, attacking isg ood, double attack, twice the attack, =twice as good

it's not that terrable of a combo

I have been asked twice already by two seperate JP parties whether I have a WHM that I can sub. I was suprised as well the first time I was asked.

Thinking about it, due to the WHM shortage, it's not that bad of a combo for times when you simply can't find a WHM for the party. It's a sub-optimal setup, but it's doable enough that it's better than nothing.

Imagine a party with only a RDM and a BLM, unable to find a WHM. A DRK/WHM can actually back up heal fairly decently (especially the non-galka DRKs), because they have a decent MP pool to work with. RDM can be the main healer, and keep everyone refreshed. DRK/WHM would fill in as the backup healer, and yet still able to participate in a renkei and do damage. Hate can be a problem if you mass spam cures, but at least you have access to blink, so you get 3 free hits, hopefully enough time for the PLD to regain hate.

It's NOT the ideal comb, obviously, you don't use it if you don't have to. But when you are in a sub-optimal party setup, a DRK/WHM as a backup healer is 10 times better than say... a WAR/WHM or DRG/WHM or THF/WHM as a backup healer.

if you have a RDM and a BLM get a BRD and skip the WHM for an uber xp grp
          Tarutaru! Rank 10 San'Doria
          BLM:74 - WHM:37 - RDM:34
          RNG:46 - NIN:27 - WAR:20 - MNK:8

Sub whm has only 2 purposes for drk. (preferrably at least 25)

              1. Utility sub. Saves you the money to buy prism powder and silent oil. So you can solo a lot of quests and/or help other people with their quests, free! Example: Running around Castle Oztroja looking for coffer box...

              2. Skill up PT. Most of the skill up pt forming in Jeuno has this requirement: Self sneak/invisible/healing. Since everyone is just there to skill up their choice weapon, you are responsible for your own healing.

              Hope this helps

EDIT: In fact, I think everyone should have their whm lvl to at least lvl 25... it's very useful...

HMmm, thinking about it, DRK/RDM would proboly be better b/c of fast cast and you get your heals plus it helps out with elemental damage and debuffing.

Later lvs too phlanx and stoneskin will be good b/c DRK has decent enfeebling (or so I heard)

Hmmm...wonder if I could get to 30 w/o a sub job on a RDM so I woudlnt' have to lv 3 jobs
