250 Ws

I was wondering which WS is better overall the Great Sword or Scythe WS at 250? And does anyone have a pic or movie of what they both look like and the average dmg done with both. I was a Lvl 47 Nin/War and its really boring and i was about to quit ffxi but my friends told me to try out a different class and I am loving this class i started playing it 4days ago and i'm lvl 24 and i dont want to stop i love seeing the big hits and i love using Scythes i think its pimp and same with Gsword. One last Question should i use sword at all also?

No one really talks about the Scythe skill 'Spiral Hell' which is kinda weird 0_o

Many websites don't even tell how many hits it does.

They're both one hit... and though they each have an extra property, for the most part they are, skillchain-wise, equivalent to cross reaper and spinslash. Damage-wise, their damage is a bit lower starting out (about 2/3 of the damage of the 225 WS's), but extra TP increases the damage by an insane amount. I'd say if you have 200% or more TP, it's worth it to use the 250 WS. With 300% TP I managed to land a 1700 on a VT manticore in a level up party. Not too shabby at all.



Just keep them both in 1 macro. For example, my macro would be:

/ws "Cross Reaper"
/aws "Spiral Hell"

and when i have more TP, then between fights I would quickly change it to

/aws "Cross Reaper"
/ws "Spiral Hell"

by adding an "a" in there, it is ignored and skips onto the next line, whereas if there's a blank line the macro stops altogether. This way I can switch between macros really easily without much hasstle. Of course, don't forget your witty comments that go along with the WS ^_~

As for the "Sword or Scythe or Both?" question...

By about 30+ it becomes impossible to level both up at the same time (at least it was for me).

I levelled Greatsword up while doing warrior to 30, then started scythe on Drk. When i reached about 28 Greatsword was no longer capped... and for 2 or 3 levels I was able to cap both Scythe and Greatsword... after about 32-33, Greatsword stopped capping, skill gains become too slow. The only way to do it is to level up higher with just Scythe (or just Greatsword, up to you) then go back to an earlier zone and skill up off the mobs by soloing.

When you're 60, do yourself a favor and join key hunts to skill up both of these weapons. It's the best skillup opportunity in the game. The next real good opportunity is 70+ skilling up on light elementals in Tulia.

"When" is a strong word =p In the last 2 weeks I got a total of 2 groups, with a combined total of 400 exp before either I left before the inevitable wipeout, or the group split up. I have bad luck =p

that's exactly as I plan to do, in fact I'm really considering selling my Darksteal Claymore because I can't solo the mobs that skill it up yet it's too low to be used in pts for my current lvl (course at 60 lots of the stuff cons even-T so I could hit it :p)

hmm.. I've had no problem capping both my scythe and greatsword all time... @5k to lvl57, I've gotten both scythe and gsword capped already. Take this lvl for example.. about 5k into the lvl, scythe was capped already (as was my drk magic)... then I switched to greatsword and after about 10k xp, I got that capped too... it's about the same for every lvl... the greatsword tends to take longer to cap....

I do feel like I'm cheating my xp PT tho, 'coz my greatsword does a lot less damage.. but I justify it due to the -5 acc from the barb scythe, that I hit more with the Gsword.. =P so the PT usually doesn't mind me changing.. dunno if I could keep up with my gsword tho after I get vassago... ;_;

I tend do absorb-agi and absorb-vit every battle.. so maybe that makes a difference.... plus brd accuracy enchancements help me land more hits.. so I guess more chance of getting skillup that way... =P

You are probably very lucky or you got sniper rings very early ^^


After I got sniper rings I capped within the first 7k exp or less.

I remember it taking 49-50 to get Vorpal using scythe the whole time before I got sniper rings :|

After GS fell behind I never bothered with it again.


Now that I'm getting close to Spin slash, it's going to be frustrating skilling up GS after 200 skill :|

hmm? o.O not at all for me. im 58 and both weapons are capped currently. i have not gone out of my way to skill up either of them. at 42 or sumthin, it startin getting hard to keep them both capped, but past 50 it is very easy IMO because the gigantic XP leaps. you'll have plenty of time to skill up both weapons in XP party.

The problem with getting a good exp PT is that you'll level faster than your weapon can keep up. :p Which was basically about 40-50-something.

Well for me I was finding that scythe maxed when I was around 1-1.5k to next level. Switching to greatsword only got me about 0.5 skill gain before I levelled up... so I sold my greatsword and stuck with scythe.

On a less relevant note, I've given up with Drk for now after realising that galka are purely useless, so my input probably isn't worth much =p
