DRK newbie

I was aiming for DRG and as a Lv18 WAR/MNK was leveling my polearm. however a few posts by level 60+ DRG's saying how msierable it is to be a 3rd rate melee has well and truly put me off, they say jumps are not as good as people say and they lack the versatility of a DRK and of a decent 2Hr. I agree. Thus I have turned to the DRK side. As a WAR I was just wondering, in perparation for this job should I wield a Scythe or GSW on the rise to lvl30? Do I need any rank for the job quest?--cos i dont have time for missions right now! And depending on what weapon I use where would be the best place to skill up BEFORE joining a party--im from San D'Oria...la thiene? valkrum?

i decided to up my GS when i hit lev 10 war.
got that up to 87 on my lev 30 war, then did the DRK quest. (OMFG that GS sucks, but still one hit kills )

i've only starting on Scythe since i started DRK, and have only had a few levels where i haven't had it maxed, (go the not being able to hit at all).

i don't think you need fame to do the quest, as i did it on full rank 2 points.

but really, keep upto date with all your equipment and you'll be fine, this job is so much more fun then warrior.

Thanks so GSW to level 30 then after quest get Scythe. Gotcha. I'm guessing this is becuase WAR are better with GSW than Scythe....Anyways I dont need to be a certain rank to do DRK quest do I?

not really that wars are better, but the scythes don't come into there own untill they become DRK only.

plus the GS's are slightly faster at swinging, (plus they look cool), well the lev 20 two-handed sword does. (main reason i went for GS was FFVII, nothing beats a sword that twice the size of your body , that and a macro that says "name here" readies Omnislash)

for the adv jobs, i think you just have to be lev 30, and that the only requirment(sp?).

Yeah I am at school so tell me about it have to wait till late tommorow to play!! Thanks for all the info, I plan on picking up a GSW, Braveheart to be exact, I heard it ahs good damage and stats for my lvl,18. BTW do you know the avergae Ah for Sadnorai.

probably the only reason why there's level 60+ drgs complaining that they don't do enough damage is because the best leveling from 65 to 75 is off of skeletons. unfortunately for drgs, bones are resistant to spear damage. so they're pretty much the last in line party wise at high levels. from what i've heard, the melee in demand at those levels are pld>war>monk> drk.

not sure on the price of the Braveheart (at a wild guess, i'd say it cost somewhere around 7-10k on my server), i skipped it and just got the lev 20 sword that i mentioned in my last post.

cost me 10k at SanD, but hey so far its been the best gil i've spent (lol i used it all the way to lev 30, just upped my armour at 24 to chain and i was fine), even if i can't use it again for 5 levels, and now i can't decide on if i will use it, or just get the lev 20 Cruel Scythe(that right?) and sell my GS..

While I am a warrior/monk, 18/9 I'll train with GSW for DRK, where can I go to raise my weapon level quickly, ssoling crabs in la thiene maybe?Any thoughts, maybe lvl 30 in an hour and a half?

A DRK is 3rd rate melee damager from 50-60. Don't become a DRK if you want to have an easier time of getting groups. A lot of people have given up on DRK in thier 50s because they got frustrated from never getting a group.

Thanks Lynuen, I know you've said it before but I hadn't done my homework (metaphorically speaking). I have researched em both and found DRK to be better so, great. Guess we are on the same path now.

Of course I remmember you from Warcry we're like best buds. And don't worry about the back and forth thing I've chosen DRK and I'm here to stay. I've waded through too many posts saying DRG's are underpar and underclass and do weaker damage with a useless wyvern. I prefer DRK with absorb magic aswell as stronger hits and useful atk boosting abilities.
