  • Drain getting resisted sometimes?

Heya, Quick question if someone could gimme some insight. I don't remember how high my Dark magic skill was in beta, but I had a 25drk/30rdm so it was pretty decent. (never capped tho) Anyways I noticed that sometimes I would drain for 88hp (tops) against Incredibly Tough (aka Tote tote) Clippers, while sometimes I would drain for 7ish HP. WTF? I've heard of spells getting resisted, but is it random? I've tried casting certain spells like dia before draining and it seems to be totally random.. Am I missing something? Same thing with aspir.. (Osmose) Please tell me I'm missing something?

I believe it depends on the magic resistance of the monster. My black mage at level 50 had around 130 in dark magic (it was maxed) and the most it would ever drain was around 150ish hp. I noticed if I casted drain on a non-magic monster (Crawlers, Pugils), the drain would always end up with a lot in return. On a magic monster (Gob Shamans, Worms), I'd get 0-10hp, but not always. It can be pretty random.
The most depressing FFXI moment ever... http://i630.photobucket.com/albums/u...t/SNAG-783.jpg

I noticed I would drain the most if I killed an enemy with it, or pulled with it. My drain tended to suck on Pugs (in Qufim) getting like 7-8hp per, unless I waited till the bastard had like a sliver of HP left, then drained, I would get like 50ish hp at a time. Aspir is even worse, even on magical enemies like Dancing Weapons.
