Correct me if I'm overlooking anything but with Silence, BaXXXXRa, Haste, Cure spells, and Protect/Shell, wouldn't a Dark Knight with White Mage sub be a really powerful dueling set? or at elast I can't come up wtih any non-expansion melee class that can beat it.

First off
At the moment there is no dueling so it doesn't matter. Secondly that combo would get it's ass kicked. Because Dark Knight/Warriors have absolutly pathetic defense, and a DRK/WHM would be even worse. Also, you wouldn't have enough MP to do much healing wise and you would only have low lv White magic. DRK/WHM = useless (maybe soloing but I'd prefer DRK/RDM) as for dueling, a WAR would kill you. A Monk would kill you. A THF would kill you. A PLD would kill you. A BST would kill you. A Ranger might kill you. A SAM would kill you. A SMN would kill you. A DRG would kill you, and a NIN would kill you. Good luck though

For dueling, I'd say DRK/WHM would kick DRK/WAR's ass any day of the week (duh no heal). Personally, I feel that DRK/RDM is the supreme dueling combo for DRK, and a very good one in general. WHM is more party based, whereas RDM is more self-beneficial. More weaken spells, en-spells, phalanx, though they won't work anywhere near as good as on a RDM main, will certainly provide a decent boost. Not to mention how killer the weaken spells would work for DRK because they actually have a weaken skill. And let's remember that DRK actually has quite a bit of MP. Heals work really well subbed; you can survive on just whm subs, whm mains just make things easier. I think DRK actually has a pretty good chance in PVP because A) we have a higher weaken magic skill, unlike any other melee in the game, B) lots of MP, can heal a lot, C) When hit by a hard blow like guillotine, the last thing anyone with the ability to heal themselves wants is to find themselves silenced. Though you can just pull out an echo screen to fix this, this certainly does waste time and cause panic.
I'm worried about classes like sam, who will be able to penta nonstop once they step into the ring; it's not fair for other melees. Oh well, mages can get rid of sam with sign bind + ancient anyhow, whereas DRK is supposedly the mage's nightmare (we can cast silence to, if nothing else, interrupt powerful spells, and it can actually hit successfully due to the weaken magic skill).

I'm doing it because I'v edone everything else I can think of that even remotely pertains to FFXI. But I'm interested in hearing how a Paladin would beat this-I've made alot of comparisons and A Dark Knight with White Mage sub seams like it has the Protect/Cure spells of the Paladin, plus Haste, BaXRas, and Silence.Chocobos smell like crap!

I was in a PT that was lacking a mage in the lower 50's so my PT asked me to sub whm. This has happened a few times but IMO Drk/Whm sucks if there are already 3 mages. Yeah, you can heal a lot and wear some MP gear and it wouldn't make a diff because you're not a tank, but whm sub is like Accuracy -100%. Each job/weapon usually gets 100% tp at around the same time but when I subbed WHM in that 50ish PT, when I got 100% TP everyone else had about 230%ish. Your damage isn?ft much lower, id say maybe like 15% less damage per swing, but you can?ft hit worth shit. Even if you do have all that uber accuracy gear. You pretty much turn yourself into a RDM. If you want to play Drk/Whm 100% of the time, might as well just level up an Rdm instead and make yourself more useful. Just some in game experience that might be useful to you~
