  • Solo Body Slam and Exuviation Guide

I was readying the Alla forums and saw two interesting threads for blue mage. They both were how to solo two next to impossible spells Body Slam and Exuviation. They were done by Neolirian and all they credit goes to him for the follow guide:

    Solo Body Slam:
I see a lot of people saying that solo learning of Body Slam vs Dahak can't be done, so I will write up the strategy I used. Dahaks do destroy blue mages easily in melee fights, so this will be a sleep/nuke strategy.

Suggested prereqs: Level 75 BLU/NIN, Apollo's and Pluto's staves (at the very least Light and Dark), blue magic merits (I had 5), 7-12 Yagudo Drinks per fight (being a 60 cook after a visit to the Kolshushu vendor really helps here), Reraise item with multiple charges (usually only 1-2 per fight, can be more if you have bad luck)

    Spell list:
    Actinic Burst, Plasma Charge (refresh)
Zephyr Mantle, Chaotic Eye (conserve MP)
Yawn, Soporific, Sheep Song (sleep spells)
Radiant Breath, Eyes On Me (nukes)
Magic Fruit, Head Butt (bail-out spells)
    Diamondhide, Memento Mori (support spells)
Bludgeon (in case you don't see Body Slam, usually not needed)

Optional suggestions: Balrahn's Ring is good for this. I used an Umbra Cape and Jelly Ring, but as hard as Dahaks hit you may just want to use casting gear in those slots to shorten the fight, or else evasion skill gear if you have it. The Dahak does whiff at times, so I used AF feet to encourage that trend. Using pants like Errant Slops or Jet Seraweels is the best gear slot to help your nukes because you pretty much have to use AF body. Remember that if the drinks/ingredients plus the casting gear take up too many inventory slots, you can leave the grand majority of your melee items at the moghouse. You don't need a melee contingency plan... if you run out of MP, the fight is over. Good MP resting gear such as Errant Hpl., Qiqirn Sash +1, and Grandiose Chain helps in this fight.

The camp is at E6 Mt. Zhaylom. The Vana'diel bestiary claims that there's a Dahak in Halvung (which may be weaker), but I don't have a position for it if so. Remember that you can get to the E6 camp with less impact to your stealth items by taking Nyzul Isle portal, northeast portal, then left portal 3 times.

Buff up with Utsusemi, Diamondhide, Reraise, and food (I used tacos). On the pull, bring the mob all the way to the arch leading to Halvung so that you can zone if you have to, and your AoEs don't hit the (non-aggro) Wamoura Prince nearby. After pulling the mob, sleep it using a secondary sleep spell such as Soporific (ie don't use Yawn), then renew your shadows using Utsusemi: Ichi. Drink your first Yagudo Drink here, and try to keep the refresh effect up for the duration of the fight (but don't attempt to drink while the Dahak is awake).

IMPORTANT: Face away from the Dahak the entire fight. The petrify JA comes out very fast and may not give you a chance to turn around on reaction.

The basic loop for the fight is as follows: With shadows at full, wake the sleeping Dahak using Radiant Breath. Cast Eyes On Me before you lose the first 3 shadows. Cast Utsusemi: Ni to renew shadows. Cast Yawn to sleep the mob. Once sure the mob is asleep, drop the extra shadows and cast Utsusemi: Ichi to top off shadows. Rest MP.

If the mob wakes up early, either sleep it immediately using Soporific, or at the very least nuke it only once and sleep it using Yawn after casting Utsusemi: Ni. Whatever you do, don't go for anything other than a sleep spell once Ni has been cast. If Yawn is resisted (which is very rare with Apollo's Staff, AF body, and blue magic merits), then consider using Azure Lore on Soporific. If Soporific is resisted, use Azure Lore on Sheep Song. The 2nd and 3rd sleep spells are very hard to cast if shadows are down, so Head Butt may be required to create a window. Don't bother trying to get Utsusemi: Ichi when the mob is awake, just sleep it. If you have a problem with sleep spells getting resisted, you may want to use a more defensive spell list (ie get rid of Memento Mori and replace with a more reliable stun such as Temporal Shift) because Head Butt with all casting gear will be unreliable.

Now, if you have rested up plenty of MP and the mob has some time yet to sleep, that's a good chance to use Memento Mori (or Amplification) before nuking. You can also choose to renew Diamondhide if it is down, which (because of the high MP cost) lengthens the fight, but makes it safer. Diamondhide absorbs 1.5 hits and gives you a better chance to cast Utsusemi: Ni without getting hit, or cast the sleep spell if Utsusemi is down.

Even though you aren't meleeing the Dahak, it builds TP just fine and you will see a good 5+ JAs per fight. They usually happen right after the mob wakes up. The JAs for the most part will in the worst case require you to use Magic Fruit after sleeping the mob. The exception is Nullsong, which takes out every buff including reraise. If this happens, cast Utsusemi: Ni if you have it, then sleep the mob immediately. Equip your RR item right after sleeping the mob and remember to renew shadows using Utsusemi: Ichi. Use RR as soon as the timer is up. If you can't get RR renewed, zone. It is very possible to die without RR up here, so be careful, and make sure you have a lot of buffer before attempting this fight.

On getting the ability: Because of the number of JAs per fight, it is very rare to reach the end of the fight without seeing Body Slam. If this happens, you may want to have Bludgeon available to use in place of the nukes in order to do less damage while feeding the mob TP. Also, I recommend keeping Magus Bazubands equipped for the entire fight though it may just be superstition (ie, don't swap them out when casting or resting MP).

If you have sleep/nuke experience, this isn't a hard a fight once all the prep work is done, and you should be able to win it reliably if you need multiple looks to learn the ability (I did). Have fun and good luck!

    Solo Exuviation:
I already wrote an essay on using sleep/nuke to learn Body Slam, so this post is just a short collection of notes on how to adjust a normal sleep/nuke strat for fighting Wamouras.

    Spell list (uses 1 Assimilation):
    Refresh: Actinic Burst, Plasma Charge
Conserve MP: Chaotic Eye, Zephyr Mantle
    Sleep: Sheep Song, Soporific, Yawn
    Emergency: Head Butt, Magic Fruit
    Nuke: Frost Breath
    Aspir: MP Drainkiss
    TP feed: Bludgeon
    Dispel: Blank Gaze
    Optional/Insurance spells: Refueling, Diamondhide

Best camp: other side of the arch at C6 Mt. Zhaylom leading to the BC. Going Nyzul Isle -> Mt. Zhaylom makes getting there pretty easy. Be aware that it is a long hike to the BC zone and that there are mobs on the way, so rely on RR instead of {Run away!}. WARNING: The rumor that the Halvung Wamouras are 3 levels weaker (as stated on Wikia) is false unless I'm looking in the wrong place. The Halvung Wamouras I know of are at G4 on the map with the woods/thickets exits, con VT/IT just like the Mt. Zhaylom ones, and are MUCH harder to pull cleanly because the terrain is narrow pathways instead of an open area. At either camp, be ready to sleep then logout if you get adds on the pull.

2 things about Wamouras dictate the course of this fight:
    - First, they gain almost no tp at all during sleep/nuke. Therefore, Bludgeon has to be used heavily if you want to see Exuviation more than once per hour.
    - Second, they are very easy to fight/control/defeat unless they use Erratic Flutter, and they are deadly from the time they use it until it is dispelled.

    Main Cycle:
    - at high Wamoura HP%: mob is asleep, Frost Breath, Bludgeon, Yawn or Sheep Song, Utsusemi: Ichi, MP Drainkiss/rest MP, repeat
    - at low Wamoura HP% or if you have low MP, same thing without the Frost Breath
    - Utsusemi: Ni is kept in reserve in case of special attack or all the Ichi shadows are lost before the mob is slept
    - Soporific is kept in reserve in case a sleep spell is resisted
    - (of course) Do not use Bludgeon at all once the Wamoura has used Exuviation.

The point is to spam as many Bludgeons as fast as possible because you may need to Bludgeon the mob a good 30-50 times to see the right move. Hence Refueling as an optional spell... having the sleep, Utsusemi, and Drainkiss timers sped up is very helpful. While spamming Bludgeon opposite sleep spells, you have to remember that Proboscis can be dangerous if your MP is 300ish or lower, so if MP drops below 400 you should stop doing Frost Breath until MP is better. Also, for sleep use Yawn only in that case because resting MP during Sheep Song doesn't last long. The reason to alternate Sheep Song and Yawn when MP is good is that Soporific has the longest recast timer, so it makes the best backup sleep spell.

Proboscis sometimes removes RR. No matter how easy the mob seems, reactivate RR after sleeping it, because...

Erratic Flutter: At best, I survived about 66% of these. It's an insane Haste spell that gives the Wamoura 2x speed if not more. The mob will interrupt nearly any of your spells while hitting that fast. Here are tips for beating this move:
    - Best variation for survival I have found is Head Butt the instant you see the move (on Head Butt macro in a sword, the Jubbah, and lots of +acc gear, don't worry about STR), then a sleep spell (on the sleep macros, good to have fast cast/haste gear macroed in on top of the Jubbah and elemental staff). If that gets resisted/interrupted, Utsusemi: Ni, then a sleep spell. If that gets interrupted, Actinic Burst, then a sleep spell. By the time all 3 have failed, you should be quite dead.
    - Utsusemi: Ni is the weakest part of that sequence because the Wamoura can take out all 3 shadows in time to interrupt a sleep spell. That's why you don't Head Butt then Utsusemi: Ni... you can actually lose ground by doing that. If the Wamoura is killing you fast, skip Utsu and try Actinic Burst. Actinic Burst only lands about 50% of the time (even using Balrahn's Ring and Pluto's Staff), but it is comes out so fast that it won't be interrupted if you time it between hits, and it's virtually guaranteed to give you time to land sleep if it does land.
    - I was able to sleep the mob once or twice the instant I saw the move without Head Butt first, but that did not seem to be a reliable method.
    - One form of insurance is to have Diamondhide up when the mob is due to use a special attack. Keeping Diamondhide always up may hurt MP flow during Bludgeon spam, but is doable as well.
    - Another method of insurance is (when not using the Frost Breath part of the cycle) use Actinic Burst on the mob right before using Bludgeon. If it lands, the mob wakes up blind and you have just enough time after Bludgeon to cast a sleep spell if the mob uses Erratic Flutter.
    - Even if you can't beat this move, remember that you'll see few if any special attacks once you stop using Bludgeon. So, if you are lucky enough to see Exuviation before Erratic Flutter, you should be able to Frost Breath the mob to death and get a learn attempt. If you see Erratic Flutter first, can always RR and try another.

Remember, once you manage to sleep the Wamoura after Erratic Flutter, spam Blank Gaze until the Haste buff is dispelled.

The other special attacks aren't much to worry about. The AoEs shouldn't be a problem if you are holding Utsusemi: Ni in reserve. The Erosion Dust Dia effect is short enough that you can wait it out after re-sleeping the mob if you don't want to use Diamondhide just to rest MP. Proboscis has a distressing tendency to take out RR. That's another reason why both Refueling and Diamondhide are good optional spells, they make it less likely for RR to be the single buff that gets removed.

I went 1 for 5, good luck learning this spell!

The only change I would make to this post is the spell selection for Exuviation. I would replace Chaotic eye with Frost Breath, which is use as a nuke, for conserve mp trait. This would eliminate the need for 1 Assimilation merit point. I dont see Chaotic Eye being used in the entire fight. I would also suggest, if Erratic Flutter is used first then try to sleep the mob and log off. If you cant sleep the mob then as the OA(Original Author) said, "...can always RR and try another"
