  • Elvaan BLM Help ><

So I leveled THF to 21 and got bored, so I decided to take a break from THF and messed with BLM. Now I'm in love with playing BLM.
Unfortunetly, as an Elvaan, I have low MP and INT. My Question is do I try and balance +INT gear and +MP gear or do I focus on one from a X lvl to X lvl?

    Example: Focus on +INT from lvl10- lvl20
    Then MP from lvl20-lvl40

I wanna be a good Elvaan BLM and make Taru BLM's look bad .......ok, I'm exaggerating:sweat: but I do want to perform to the best of my ability

you'll want to have a balance of both. at early levels, you won't compete with a taru in terms of being a blm. the most important thing for an elvaan though is pumping elemental magic skill. you have your first crack at that with wizard's earring at level 30. although you can't deal damage like a taru, you can ensure make sure that your spells hit for full damage rather than getting resisted like a taru. also, control your nuking. you have more of an opportunity to do that given your limited mp pool. newb taru blms have a tendency to nuke their brains out and pull the hate off of the tanks. and they always nearly die because of their endless nuking. i have the tendency err...only cure these super nukers when the tanks can't get the mob off of the blm. when they finally die and scream out "WTF DIDN'T YOU HEAL ME?!" i tell them "because you were nuking your brains out, pulled hate, and tanks couldn't get it off, tough noogies taru. even if i did cure you, there wouldn't be anything i could because the tanks couldn't take the mob off of you. learn to control your nuking taru." don't be like the noob taru blm... control your nuking, don't pull hate.

      Yay, quick reply
So I guess you mean to put a delay between my nukes...if that's what you meant, about how long the delay?
Do I get to use tractor alot when I get it? (I hope I get to use tractor alot, sounds fun! :spin: )

P.S If someone's being a really big jerk, and I WarpII him/her.....will I get in trouble if he calls a GM on me

The majority of this is false information. No wait...all of it is.

        1) Wizard's Earring only works if your SUBJOB is black mage. So...if you're playing mainjob blm...you'll never get to use these.

        2) "Instead of getting resisted like a taru" makes no sense. Until lv51, all blm's will be resisted equally, unless of course, INT has more to do with resist than we think it does. As far as we know...INT has nothing to do with resists. If it DID< then Taru's wouldn't be getting resisted...Elvaans, having the worst int, would be getting resisted.

        3) Generally in low levels, "controlling your nuking" isn't really an option. You'll be the only thing dealing significant damage. Just learn to time your nukes with your tank's hate abilities. As an elvaan, you won't have the base endurance a taru had, so in addition to having good gear, what you should invest in are things like pineapple juice to drink until lv41, and you should eat Apple Pie +1 so that you can get +mp recovery so that your resting time is better.

        4) Off Topic - Not curing teammates is dick. If you were in my party, I'd kick you and find someone who would do their job. If a blm pulls hate, you don't just let them die. That wastes everyone's time. How do you know it wasn't that your tank just sucks?

As an elvaan blm, if you want to attempt to perform on-par with an average taru, you'll need to use juice, +mp recovery food, and top +int gear. Max MP gear won't really help you...although certain slots don't have INT available, so you should get +mp instead. Elvaan blm works - but you need money to make it work WELL. Note, that if you were a taru and invested the same amount of time...you would never get outdamaged.
        For The Horde!!
Current Gil total spent on gear:
        3,235,000
        Current Gil Value of gear:

Yes Atrapos you are the Shiz with that info. You bhave answered many questions that I had when I read Sadeira's response post. But can u tell me exactly what does INT and MND do or inprove for a BLM? I get soooo confused with that.

Also Sadeira, thank your stars that I am not on the same server as you because if you ever let me die cause I over nuked u would be booted soo fast. I nuke like crazy and suffer a hit or 2 but then thats what having Drain spell comes in handy. Then also having CARING RDM's and WHM's, unlike you, to cure me the rest of the way. Learn how to play your role better if you wanna suceed in it in the future.

Generally u will not get in trouble with GM's. But keep in mind that it is also not good gaming to do that. You will have your reputation shredded to bits depending on how popular that person was. Me, I would give a party member 1 verbal warning in tell if they get out of hand and if they continue to do it, then I will kick them out of the group I will not waste mp on warping them. God help them if we are in a nasty place too, hehe.

Your reply started off genuinely helpful and in the best intrest of the original poster, but somehow you turned it into a Taru vs All other races post. Not only that but you actually implied in your post that a new, ignorant player would somehow choose Taru BLM instead of another race... is it just me or does that seem entirely controdictory as a ignorant player would be more likely to choose a race less suited to BLM.

Your may not have meant to when you wrote it, but your reply comes off as very arrogant and spiteful in the end.

P.S i'm sorry to go off topic, but i think it needed to be adressed.

If you want some advice on how to play BLM (and this goes for any race), just apply what you read in any topic adressing this issue, any race can play any job, it all depends on your level to commitment. Dont feel your at a immediate disadvantage because your Elvaan

according to some of teh current debatable damage formular int difference between a taru and elvaan doesn't account to enough damage difference that will make the elvaan cry

The hardest thing an elvaan blm has to do is make it to the upper levels where you start getting gear that can mitigate the difference between taru's and elvaan's. RSE is the first step for the elvaan blm, then there's another bit of blank time where it'll be a little hard, but by the time you get into the 50's, the difference between a taru and an elvaan for all intents and purposes is nil. The thing I noticed, however, is I can afford to skip some small upgrades to save money for big upgrades, and not notice a difference.

The higher level you get, the smaller the gap between taru and elvaan blm's get. By lv75...the difference is only a few hundred mp...which really doesn't matter at all anymore.

Cool! After I read the thread with Faluzure's screen shots(Very Nice ) I read somewhere that at Higher Levels Taru and Elvaan don't have big differences as BLM's.

All I'm worried about is getting low party invites and/or dealing damage so low I can easily be replaced with a Melee:dead:
I think that the lower levels will be a struggle but from the benefits I see in the future I think it will be worth it. Thanks everyone who posted (Even,Sadeira, the person that was....erm...most..hmm....opinionated:p )

having never done it (level elvaan blm to 75)...I can't say that it's satisfing. I think if you enjoy the game, bettering your character in any way is satisfying, especially given difficult circumstances. I'd imagine that getting a lv75 elvaan blm would be fairly satisfying.

Anyways, you won't have any problems with invites in lower levels. There's generally enough of a lack of blm's that people really won't care what race you are. Upper levels, you'll suffer through the same prejudice that other blm's go through...as in "We melee's do so much damage we don't need blm's anymore". That's bullcrap, but people believe it anyways. You might have it a little harder as an elvaan, but that's not really an issue. Just try to make some friends to form the base of PT's consistently and you'll find yourself high level in no time.
