Best staff?

I'm was just curious, which staff would be better for me when I hit 51 - Dark or Ice?

I'm a tarutaru, if that makes any difference...

Get both and switch between two depending on the spell.

Dark is probably more useful.

Although Ice staff has the +10 elemental and such, I think Dark staff is more useful. It won't let you do as much damage, but it will help A LOT at getting your mp faster. Don't forget, BLM doesn't only nuke and at time blm has to help with healing and a good pt member helps at reducing the downtime.

Ya Dark Staff at 51; resists won't be an enormous factor until 56-60 assuming you get your af gloves on time.

Anyways, I bet if I try really hard, I can get both staffs at the same time. The AH here sells them for less than half the price of in other servers, so basically I can get 2 on my server for the price of one on another.

Dark staff first, without a doubt. Ice staff doesn't really show its usefullness until you start leveling on Torama. Before then, you're leveling mostly on Robber Crabs, so if you get your AF gloves in time (like shwiggy mentioned), you won't have an issue with resists. Add the fact that you'll be casting mostly blizzard and thunder series, which are your strongest spells, and happen to be what robber crabs are weak to, you'll be doing lots of damage with few resists. Dark Staff will reduce your resting time by roughly 50%...it's really a big difference. Add that you can aspir the crabs, and your 54->60 will be a smooth, easy ride that involves mostly no downtime, and no resists. Prepare for a shitty rode from 60->68 though, unless your server stocks elemental torques more than midgardsormr ; ;

they've been 500k on midgardsormr since I could remember. Right before I packed up my computer to come home from school, they were rapidly dropping from around 480-440k with several more in stock. Not sure what they're going for now..haven't been on ffxi since wednesday.

Actually I got my Ice Staff first and didn't regret it. At the time I was getting like a 50% nuke resist rate and so the Ice Staff saved me a lot of MP.
But getting the Dark Staff first is OK too since it will be just like back in the day before the Ice or any of the elemental staves existed except with more MP regen.

I suggest getting both. I love both of mine.
I had same INT as a taru blm in my party, and was out damaging him. He even said now that he has seen my equipment and staves, he has to rethink his equipment. The only major difference was 1 INT, and my Ice Staff.

The elemental torques rose from 70-100k to 200-300k... >_< I also find the leveling from up to 68 painful sometimes. lol It's weird, at times there is almost nobody online seeking except under 65 and over 68 lol. Well, I'm getting close to 68 and it will be a relief lol

yeah...I really hate trying to exp when a major HNM is about to pop...everyone and their mother disappears, so I have nobody to level with. So weird though...sometimes there are like 5 other blm's my level lfp...and other times there's nothing. The best was the other day, I got a brd, a rdm, and a pld (usually the 3 hardest jobs to get), and there was still another brd and rdm lfp, and I couldn't get anyone else. That sucked lol.
