Not as far into my Taru BLm as the others are, more focused on my Monk atm.

    1. Space out your Spells, and use the ones the mobs are weak to.

    2. If melee are near 100% TP, and mob has enough HP to survive the skillchain, wait on casting your nukes. Pisses me off so much getting a Skillchain started to not get the full effect becuase the blm grabbed aggro.

    3. Rest when you see the mob has low HP. I do it when it has a few HP and I know the Melee can finish it. If its a crab or beetle and the mob Does its Def Up Special, I get up and cast one nuke to finish it off. Gotta Keep the chain going.

    4. You will get some bad tanks and some good ones. I know few good ones and alot more bad ones. Like a Taru PLD who would do this every fight. Flash, then Banish II, when he lost hate, only then would he provoke. Starting off the Battle with a 100-270 Chi Blast would instantly give me aggro with my 1st couple attacks.

Have fun nuking, I made my mule into a BLM for when I get bored with lvling my Melee. Pimp Taru Blm at the current level.

Honestly, at 14 i didn't worry about aggro at all

I piled on a ton of INT to my taru, Eremite Ring+1 x2 and stuff, and 2 nukes got me aggro...

whenever i got aggro i'd just nuke harder and hope i finished it off

that stops around lvl 25 tho, when enemies tend to have too much HP for a blm to take out on his own damage wise.

I'm fairly new to the Black Magic system. I have a few questions of my own.

        What is "magic bursting"?

And how can I use that effectivley?

Sorry, I'm not trying to hijack the thread or anything.

why not work out a ratio of damage/mp used to cast spells?

if you notice that the type of enemy you are fighting is weak against ICE but you can do almost comperable damage to it with a fire spell. Try writing down your damages/mp of spell used to cast.

Even if the enemy is weak to something, casting that high MP spell might not make as much damage as 2 to 3 slightly lower spells.

Casting blizzard for me costs a lot more MP than it does for a fire. And does like 10 damage more. It'd be more damage for me to cast 3 fires vs 2 blizzards for the same amount of MP.

it depends what part of the chain you're on

For chain 0-2 (or 3, depending how quickly we kill / pull), I usually use my most MP efficient spells. Most times, that ends up being Blizzard and Thunder II. I'll cast a few blizzard and thunder III's, and if possible MB. This lets me keep just about full mp all the way until we pull the mob for chain 4. Now, I just use my most damaging spells, and try to time them to the paladin's job abilities. I can usually chain-nuke without getting aggro until the very end. This will use about 50% of my entire mp reserve, so assuming immediate pull for chain 5, I have just enough MP to use heavy nukes and still MB.
