    i have a 34/17 BLM/WHM. (hume)

and im considering making a Taru now! i like how taru's look more then Hume, and how they make better BLM and WHMs , but it annoys me, because i have spent a while on my Hume. did anyone else have hume and go taru? was it worth it to you? i'd rather start over then forever dislike my race choice, but ive spent alot of time ( AND MONEY!!!) on my Hume, wjhat do you suggest i do?

Why not create a second character as a Taru? Try it out yourself and see for yourself if it's worth it.

That way you can always go back to your hume if you don't like the taru.

The only money you'll lose by switching to a taru (provided you MAKE a taru and keep your hume) is the money you spent on spells. Unless you bought erase, that amount should be rather small at lv33 (more than a melee to that level, but still). Plus, if you keep your lv34 around for a bit, you can farm up that cash in no time, and totally trick out the taru.

        Yay taru casters! ^^

It's been in my mind since I made my character.

"You're not interested in melee jobs, why not be a Taru?"

So my first mule was a Taru*. I took him out into Gustaberg and killed stuff. After 30 minutes I was sick of the way he looked. Everytime I get on him I'm glad he's not my main. Every time I read some Taru BLM state such and such spell does X amount of damage when Magic Bursted, and X is roughly 100 higher than my damage with said spell, that's when I wish I was a Taru. It's a love/hate thing. ><

*Who I later deleted for a Galka, who I later deleted for another Taru. Mostly to annoy his namesake. The day Prettyboy, Prettierboy and Prettiestboy meet is the day the universe implodes.

i say keep your hume...but thats cuz i'm a hume myself, quite partial to it. i do like how tarus look and they are superior to hume as a mage job but i'm glad i stayed hume. there have been many times when crap goes wrong and i end up with 100hp left or something...had i been taru, game over -_-. also, since i've gotten very good gear up til now, i can compete with most tarus for damage. seems like very few people spend their time getting nice gear. if you somehow run into a taru with same gear though, they'll blow your ass outta the water

I didnt make exactly the same thing as u but...

I started out with mithra thf and got her to lvl21 at that point I grew so damn tired of never finding any pts(cant see whats so wron with thfs... damn it should be in everyones interest to get em up over 33) but well... i switched job to blm and loved every second of it....

thing is after a little while... around lvl15blm I really started thinking I should have been a taru instead... I missed the mp mostly to be honest. and I do like how the taru looks so I decided to start over with a taru.

So now I'm a lvl40 taru blm and really happy about the switch... I wouldnt have done differently if I look back on it.

This can be a really hard choice but as Yanglung said start a second char as taru and try it out for a while and u can then decide what u like better... sure the time spent feels kina crappy to just throw away but better than growing tired of it all together in a week because u dont ike the char u got...

I would NEVER make a new char just because a certain race is hands down the best at that job....

Please don't look at my sig.

when i first started playing, i made an elvaan. i intended to be a melee character, but once i sampled magic, i wanted more. after getting to 21 whm and blm with my elvaan i started my taru as my main character, and turned my elf into a mule.

I'm now a lvl 46 blm, and with over 600 MP, i can afford to cast big spells and still get good xp chains. i have not seen a hume blm my level that could regularly use II's without messing up xp chains. what would you rather do, 110 damage per spell, or 240?

I'm very happy about my decision. The humes that are telling you not to do it are just tryin to keep the taru mages down, so that they will still be able to find parties.

One piece of advice though... if you make a taru, it is NOT an excuse to skimp on equipment. something i see far too often is taru mages that are still using lvl 10-20 gear at level 40. Stay up to date, get the +INT, further the gap between taru and humes, don't let them close the gap.

                  *edit*

one more thing, don't listen to people that go on and on about taru's being one-shotted to death. I have had that happen to me a grand total of ONCE, and it was a pugils special. if you are doing your job properly, and not spamming nukes too fast, then you should not be drawing hate very often at all. And if things go really bad, you still shouldn't get hate until someone else dies.

The curse of a taru is this:

you have enough INT and MP to draw too much hate, but not enough HP to live through drawing too much hate. so you really have to make sure you're carefull with hate control.

                  *end of edit*

I've yet to be one-hitted...and I'm one of the only blm's I've talked to with *capped* evasion for their level (currently @ 180). I don't really think that's something to brag about, as I tend to overnuke...but while exping, I've had like 2 deaths since lv30ish. The two keys are paladins (don't EVER party with a ninja unless theirs a thf in the party, unless you like casting nothing but lv1 spells 3-4 times a party ; and good healers. Also, once you get stoneskin, make sure that any time you're with a paladin you're not really confident in, you keep it up at all times. To be honest, I haven't really had a problem with pickup paladins...the vast majority seem to be fairly competant at least, and most allow me to chain nuke to my heart's desire (although due to chain constraints, I don't ). If/when you get that paladin that can't hold hate...well...if he lets it hit you enough times that even with other people healing you and you not casting spells that it kills you....an elvaan would've died too ; ;.
