    at lv22, you will want the following:
    2 eremite rings (2.5k on midgardsormr each)
    2 onyx earrings (same)
    1 Black Silk Neckercheif (1k?)
    1 Yew(?) Wand (the lv18 wand that gives I think +2 to int and mnd)
    =1 Royal Ftm.'s Tunic or Black Cloak (3-5k for first, 10-13k for second)
    OR
    =1 erudite's headband + your body peice of choice (2-4k for first)
    That's pretty much it, as I can remember.
    At lv25, you can get a morion tathlum...but that's probably out of your reach (25-30k on most servers, 45k on midgardsormr)
    30 gives you the mercenary belt (forget exact name, but gives +1 to all stats but str...about 12k on midgardsormr)
    32 gives you Black Cape (and black cape +1 , 8k and 30k respectively)
    37 gives you Morion Earrings (115k each on midgardsormr...not really neccessary)

    If you have everything but the morion earrings at lv40 (and not the cape yet, obviously), you're in real good shape (switching wand to the best one, also obviously).

    Farming wise, I'd consider going to east sarutabaruta in windurst, and farming bee's and crawlers. Beehive chips go for 2.5k per stack, and silk usually goes for about 8-9k per stack. If you farm in east saru, you can also get crawlers while waiting for spiny spispi's spawn (drops a ~20k gil cloak). You could easily solo her at lv20 (lv11 mob). Just make sure to level your sub some so you have poisona

      I have a hell of a time getting gil too pal. I just level my sub job and use that to get myself gil. I spend as little as possible on my sub and save the rest for my mains equipment. Try it you may find it helpful. Everyone says fishing but thats kinda consuming and doesn't much help your character level wise.

          Yeah, I'm also having a tough time with money. ^^

          Pretty embarassing running around as a 30 BLM with only one ring of + 1 INT and no earrings whatsoever.

          Probably going to spend the next week or so gaining money and leveling my SJ.

            Yeah hey I saw these Clear Rings that add Int. Is their something wrong with them that no one suggests buying them? Too expensive probably. I am going to start fishing, well I did but it takes forever to level. I hear Moat carp can sell pretty good. And Erudite's Headband on my world (Bahamut) is like 8k. I am gonna take about 2 or 3 weeks of fishing and get all my nice new equipment and spells til level 25 and get my ass moving on Black Mage again. Once I hit 20, get cho lisence, make cabbage runs to Selbina and get my Drain spell. Got it alllllll planned out.

              If your a hume don't get the headband, just get whatever +mp -hp hairpin you can afford, but don't get the +1 ones.

              level 10 -> 19 : brass hairpin
              level 20 -> 39 : silver hairpin
              level 40 -> 49 : Electrum hairpin
              level 50 -> Something better : Gold hairpin

                If you're REALLY rich the astrals would be worth it for the rings but... T_T

                Otherwise have the yew Wand. Eremites rings x 2. Friars Rope and a Cape I think. Get a tunic that allows to equip head gear. Then get silver hairpin

                To get money. Bite your teeth and get THF up to 15 and get BLM up to 30 as fast you can and then farm like crazy. Getting PT as a BLM is easy anyways so one or two empty or subpar equips won't matter tat much. Higher levels though. YOU MUST HAVE BEST EQUIPS!!!!

                  well i just spent 3 or 4 days farming in east saruta and made about 30k gil total maybe. when i went in i had many spells missing because i was broke, but i came out with all the spells i could get, including rasp, choke, drown and burn. i also got the black tunic which is really good with +1 int and 18 def. i bought all the lvl 20 equip upgrades, which im now kinda kciking myself over because as a mage im not sure that i really needed to spend my money int hat way. anyways i also got two onyx earrings and i have yet to get an eremite ring, that will come next. now im lvling in kazham and i feel good about my character because i have pretty good gear ^^ i suggest farming farming farming! its fun kicking poor defenseless creatures asses sometimes. oh yeah also i need to get my black neckercheif, that is all

                    earrings for blms are pretty crappy...don't worry about 1 or 2 mp here and there. the enhancing earring is the first half-decent, inexpensive one...+5hp and mp for like 4k. you can only have one though, fill the other slot with something else thats inexpensive...or go for morion if you feel wealthy ^_^. eventually though, you'll want to switch one earring out for a moldavite.

                    as for the rest of the stuff you'll want...

                    ice staff 300k-600k, varies by server
                    dark staff 300k-600k, varies by server
                    druid's rope 10k
                    morion tathlum 30-50k
                    black cape (or +1 version) 2-5k (or 30-40k)
                    gold hairpin 20-30k
                    electrum rings 8k each
                    or
                    astral rings 150k each
                    or
                    zircon rings 50k each

                    so by mid 50s, you'll be broke as hell on good equipment alone, not to mention the spells you'll be paying for. have fun farming
                    as for the hands, body, legs, and feet, you'll probably be using AF or RSE and you can switch out the hairpin for AF hat at 60.

                    note: i probably left out some junk...this is just from the top of my head

                        Wow...

                        Anyways, Riceburner has it right. At first, the expensive stuff is your spells. They'll cost you a damn pretty penny up until you buy Fire III. From there on...it's pretty cheap (Stone III / Water III aren't even as expensive as the II's, but they're more expensive than the rest of the III's...), spell wise. When you first hit lv51 though...you'll be in for a shock. When I did it, the 2 staves you "need" (ice staff and dark staff) were 2 million gil each. I got my icestaff by lv58 or 59 (with af gloves, I really didn't feel I needed any more help landing spells on crabs), and I finally managed to get my dark staff now (lv66). Sadly, that doesn't make getting invites any easier.

                        Anyways, in the begining, just look on allakazham for the highest return quests in your choice of areas. Then, do all of them. I only did about 20-25 quests in windy, but I picked the ones that returned decent gil, so that the first time I couldn't afford my gear was in my mid-40s, and a few BC40s took care of that. To be honest, I wouldn't say an ice staff is required until lv60-61. Exping on crabs in kuftal/boyahda and raptors/pugils in Cape Terrigan, I didn't really notice any major resisting. The first time I noticed some heavy resists was when I was leveling on torama's at lv61. That's when I went out and bought the ice staff. To be honest though, the biggest difference it makes isn't the cut down in resists (although that helps), it's the 10% bonus to ice spells. My blizzard II went from 280ish in damage to over 300 (330 on ice day), and my blizzard III went from 500ish damage to 580+ damage. Also, my Blizzaga II bursts went from ~700 range to ~820 damage (usually 780-820).

                        As for a dark staff...well, to be honest, you don't need it as a taru to keep making chain 5's. The only thing it helps for taru's is how quickly they'll be able to start the next chain. For other races though, a dark staff lets you use 70-80% of your mp pool and still have it back before the next pull arrives. That being said, however, I honestly think that the dark staff was one of the best investments I've ever made in game. Now, I can rest w/o refresh/ballads, and not have to wait 300 years before I get all my MP back. If you're lucky enough to be in an spt of brd+rdm, you won't really notice the difference.

                        Also, unless you're in a party without a whm or other blm's (the lack of invites lately has led me to make many 3 blm parties in Boyahda fighting steelshells for 3.5-4.5k per hour (limited only by the number of steelshells we can pull)), the only time you'll really notice a difference by using dark staff is if the other mages also have dark staff. Otherwise, your party won't be any more effective. What I say all the time is that the limiting factor in gaining exp is NOT the blm's mp, but the mp of the healer instead. I tell every puller in my parties to NEVER look at my MP bar, and to always judge the next pull by whether or not the whm has enough MP to keep people alive. If I needed full for every battle, then there'd be no way that non-taru's could ever be blm's. Since this is obviously not the case, and you can do a surprisingly large amount with a little bit of MP, the only time I usually nuke hard is for chains 2, 3, 4, and 5. Chain 0 and 1 I usually just recover from 2-5 and just MB, debuff, and throw a few more II's in.

                          WOW. those staves are alot.....

                          I'm a RDM but I'm still gonna buy at least one elemental staff. I don't think Dark Staff because I barely rest as it is. Also I though after RDMs, BRDs, and tanks BLM get the most invites because I NEVER join a group without a nuker and a Tank. Never ever because that means I have to nuke too. I always hear "but theres no BLM's on. We can just have you nuke." With my Elemental skill....yeah right.
