  • Which Elemental Debuffs should all BLM's have?

I'm a lvl 42 BLM and fell weird about asking this question, it's something I should know the answer to by now.

Which Elemental Debuffs should all BLM's have?

Thus far I've only purchased Shock and use it at the beginning of every fight.

Am I missing out by not having the other Elemental Debuffs? If I am, which other ones are worth my hard earned gil?

    Thx

I think they are all useful. It depends on what your party wants. I am like you, I use Shock at the beggining of every battle. After that i like to use Burn, but if the melee are complaining about never hitting, I'll use Freeze. I usually have Choke or something else on that doesn't take over the other element. I sugest you get them all. They are cheap and are all useful, it just depends on the situatioon ^.~

I think you meant Frost...freeze being the 307 mp ancient magic spell o.O

You should have all of them.

I usualy start with Rasp, Drown, Frost before anything else anyway.

              Definitely all of them.

They are sold in the low level magic stores, and they are very cheap compared to any of your lv 40+ scrolls.

If you are still fussing over wether or not to buy critical low level scrolls at level 40+, you really should start to farm more.

The test I use personally is, if I cannot get all the scrolls and gears I need in the next level or 2 without breaking a sweat, I put my leveling on hold and go farm.

                To the poster above me:

It's not like I don't have the gil, I have enough to buy them now.

My reason for asking is for the spells usefulness, if it's a spell that won’t get used but once a month on gereral XP parties I don’t want to spend gil on it just to have it. But if it's something that I'd use like Shock every fight, I need to get it.

Thus far in my 28 days of playtime no one has once asked why I don't cast Burn, Frost, Choke, etc. that's why I made the post.

BTW - Thanks for the responses so far, I'll make my way to the 1st place nation to get them tonight.

At least you use Shock :p

I never see BLMs using it on any of the jobs I have leveled

As an RDM, I highly appreciate the blm debuffing INT and MND so that my enfeebling job is easier. And I'm sure melees appreciate whatever debuff helps them out. So my suggestion is to get them all.

It depends on the mobs you're fighting and what party members you have which ones you use, but you should definitely have them all. For example, Drown should completely cripple the damage output of a mandragora, whereas for non-monk mob, Rasp may be better for lowering its damage output. Shock is generally only useful for the initial landing of debuffs (and very useful, at that). Burn would be something you use to increase your own damage. Frost helps if the melees are having accuracy problems, and Choke would be good if you have classes like monks or ninjas in the group (lowering enemy VIT improves the melees' STR:VIT ratio, which where a large portion of dualwielder/monk damage comes from).

Stacking Issue? I saw you guys using so manay type of debuff but i thought they dun stack (only 2)

I'm playing 25 blm now and i usualy cast Bio - Shock and that's it.. if i try to land Rasp to, one of the debuff will be gone so i usually assume only 2 can take effect.

Read other posts about stacking..... lord knows theres been way too many of them and people still dont get it.

You shouldnt ask weather or not ot buy a spell....get them all for BLM. Not getting a spell as a Mage is just lazy. That is your main job. I ran into a BLM in Qufim without Thunder and Blizzard because he didnt want to waste his money since Fire worked just fine. WTF!?!?!

Heres the order of importance for BLMs spending needs...

Spells (ALL YOU CAN GET...SAVE UP IF YOU HAVE TO)
                            Enhancing Armor (+INT)
                            MP Armor (+MP)
                            Food (Pies, Juice)

I save up for expensive items BEFORE i get to the level to use them. If you can afford it, farm before you get into a PT without it. It a big dissappointment getting into PTs with level 55+BLMs that dont have any ancient magic. Or level 45+ BLMs with no Warp 2. Or worse, Level 60+WHM with no raise 2. We all know they are expensive, but spell casting is your job.
Its not really false advertising, but it is expected you have certain spells at those levels and if you dont its bad for the PT and makes you look like a dirtbag.

+302 lvls gained (not including the -20 for purposely deleveling BRD to 45)

If you havent played BST past 35, you havent played BST.

Frost and Burn are the 2 i use most... in my mid 50s to low 60s track i used to use the "3" that would stack together on every mob.. but that was mainly because I felt my damage waskinda gimped at those levels.

depending on the target and the group makeup sometimes i dont even bother using any.
