  • Soloing worms up to level 17?

Was interested in starting my BLM only to 17 to get Warp.

Assuming I can get very good gear per level, is worm soloing still viable? I know with Rangers, they can still do it with the best gear ... only now you can't avoid the regular Stone spell, but can avoid Stonega, and the ones that take longer to cast.

And if so, what areas are recommended for worm soloing as a BLM?

Heard La Thene for around levels 8-11.
    Then Shak Maze for 11-15ish.

Where else would anyone suggest? Thanks.

Theres no way you will solo a korroloka worm at 15 without your 2 hour. I tried at 18 and it didnt work out so well. You can duo it though. I went there at 19 with a friend I made in valkurm and we each got level 20 there.

sure u can solo em at 15 I did it... took a while so probably not worth the exp but sure u can do it.

to be honest I really think u should go get a pt at dunes or maze though as u will have no problem at all to get a pt as blm in those places...

much better to chain mobs for 50/kill with no downtime than get 150-200 for one and almost die much worse exp/hour that way...
some people seem to have a really hard way to see this though as many look only at a high nr and say wow we rock but get half the exp/hour that the ones taking on T and VT instead of IT

and I dont say u are one of those just my thoughts..

Level 10 bastok blm can solo konschtat worms (look for the little alcove on the map about halfway up on the western side). They are level 7-11, and cast stone and bind. Very easy. I recommend doing these to level 12 or so (capping skills for 11 along the way).

At this point, if you don't have your subjob yet, you pretty much HAVE to group. You can't really solo much without a whm subjob, you'll die far too often. However, if you do have your whm subjob ready to go, and have decent club skill, you can head to dangruf wadi (lower level) and just mass kill rock lizards, wadi crabs, and goblin weavers/thugs/fishers. Yes, they're all easy prey; that's the point. Just breeze through them, and enjoy the roughly 20k in drops/fire crystals you get on the path to 14. You CAN kill them all the way to 15, but some will have gone not worthwhile by that point.

Since the nerf to worm soloing back in...February I think, worms will "lose focus" on you (turn yellow) if they are unable to land an attack (spell) for approximately 30 seconds. You CAN reaggro them again, but there's a possibility that they will drop back into the ground, regaining full HP. What this means to blm is that you can no longer back out of casting range, nuke the mob, back out of range, etc. to avoid spells as effectively. It also makes it much harder to take out tough/VT/IT worms, because you can no longer back out and sit down to regain MP. Considering that both shakrami and korroloka worms can cast Rasp, this was never a good battle strategy to begin with, but at least it used to be viable.

Yes, a level 15 blm could solo a korroloka worm pre-nerf, without food / drink / etc. I think it took me about 4 bars of mana! Kind of a pain, but it COULD be done (would be very tough to do now). I think it's a good idea to group from 12-18 or so, at which point shakrami worms become relatively easy to solo, while still being good xp (shakrami worms are 18-21). I'd recommend hitting korroloka at 21, the worms there are 20-25 (I think). Be warned, the highest level ones have Stone II at their disposal, which is some serious pain, especially for a taru. Barstonra is a necessity (and of course, a maxxed enhancing skill is a good idea to increase its effectiveness).

I miss pre-nerf worm soloing...great way to level risk-free and skill up neglected magic skills (enfeebling, dark, divine if you're a whm). Still, it's possible to worm solo effectively, just know that your one bar of mana will have to be enough to get the kill, or the worm will lose focus on you and go into the ground when you back up to heal MP, wasting your time.

Edit: Silke is right on xping for low levels (up to about level 25 or so). You really can't chain IT mobs very high in these levels unless everyone is wearing good, up-to-date gear, and using food (and don't ever really expect to chain ITs past #2 if not everyone has their subjob). Once you hit the mid-20s, you should be hitting Yuhtunga and Yhoator jungles, which are gravy-train, IT-chaining heaven. At my level, people are usually getting chain #4-6 on ITs, getting 150-280 xp per kill.

some of em do have stone II yes.... not many of em though and they only use em when u'r not in mele range so if not a mage u might not see em that often at all

and this is true for both maze and korroloka so watch your healtbar as one of those can hurt u pretty bad in one hit...

I solo'd worms till about 15 or 16 all over anywhere there was a worm i would try, I had the luxury of haveing a few more hp then most mages so i would often just mele them down at the end of a fight.
