  • How much does -enmity help?

I've been finding it harder and harder as of late to maintain decent damage while not getting attacked. Even with a good tank, I still get a hit occasionally, and its because my lower level spells do pretty much nothing.

My question is this, how much does -enmity stuff effect me? I will be getting my AF soon, and it would be great to hear what you higher levels have learned about this. ^^

It helps a bit. With my pumpkin head (enemity -1) on, I can Dia/Bio or do low damages to a rarab in distance, and have it forget about me before reaching me.

While in party, I put it on before a battle when I anticipate that I might get more hate then usual. It allows me to cure a little more when I play WHM, or do about 1 extra nuke as BLM.

I don't use it so I can over nuke/over heal though... I just put it on so I don't get messed up.

It seems to help a lot because it adds up pretty fast. Couple some -enmity with +enmity on a tank and you'll notice the difference.

        Well..

I wear the full BLM AF suit (each peice has -emnity) and I can give you one example of how much it doesnt seem to help..

When the puller returns to camp with a mob, if i am healing and get a tick of MP/HP before the mob is provoked it will sometimes run over and smack me.

        sad but true

That's a different matter, actually. Some monsters aggro on sit. Most beastmen do, and bats do that as well.

It's usually ok if the puller used ranged attack that did not miss, or a spell/ability. Any tiny amount of hate on the puller will be enough to prevent this on happening.

Also, don't sit in the path which your puller is taking. The sit aggro range is actually not that large, so as long as you are out of the way you are ok.

On a side note, sit aggro not only attracts your party's own pull, it also grabs attention from other party's pulls as well.

So when you are sitting down, pick a good location away from the pulling routes.

I had an odd incident in Yhoator. Our thief puller aggrod a Goblin Pathfinder and a few bees. So he comes running back while im medding and they immediatly abandon him and jump on me. I didnt even make it 10 inches before I got dropped. Aggro by sit is evil. >_<

              rest aggro's.

To give you an idea of the difference:
Doing the Garuda Prime battle, I was in a pt of 59-64's. The other black mage was lv61, I was lv60. At the time, I didn't have my body peice nor my hat, while he had full AF (-10 enmity vs -3 enmity). Up until 2 hour, neither of us got hate, and we both cast similiar amounts of times.

Then, he casts blizzaga II and freezes. Garuda turns towards him, and a provoke immediately pulls her back.

I cast blizzaga II and Garuda runs up and smacks me once before the paladin regains hate (keep in mind that I overnuke on Garuda to try to deal with her constant self-curing, I never pull aggro on other prime's).

Other black mage Stoneskin/Blinks, I stoneskin/blink. He casts freeze again, and blizzaga I. By the time stoneskin/blink wore and he took ~300 damage, paladin had aggro back.

I cast blizzaga II. I get hate, and die.

Other black mage casts blizzaga II and several more nukes before Garuda dies, doesn't gain hate again.

It helps a lot for avatars, that much at least I can tell.
