Equipment opinions

Currently I have the following list of equipment:

Other than perhaps a Black Cape +1, what would anyone suggest for improvements in my gear? I don't have tons of money so Morions + 1's are pretty much out. I'm looking for good gear on a budget

Biggest concern I have is my liliths rod. As much as I love it, it only has INT+5, where I can buy a Sloth Wand with INT+7 for half the price or less of the lilith rod. Currently I'm at 71+24(with melon pies) for my INT. Would the extra +2 INT be worth the MP draining of the Liliths Rod? And yes, it's very regular on it's draining. Not sparse at all.

for a better weapon, i suggest waiting til 58 and getting a fey wand. they're very inexpensive on my server (Siren, 4k) but very nice as well. black mage only, +7 int and mp drain additional effect at level 58.

WPN - the 2 best things to get are Dark Staff (+10 mp recovered while healing), and Ice Staff (+10 elemental skill). Both ridiculously expensive, but you'll keep for the rest of the game, so it's a worthwhile investment. To hold you over till then, buy either a Rosewand +1 (24k for +6 int and +6 mnd) or a Fey Wand (+7 int and mp drain for ~4k).

BDY - you're good till 58. At that point, try to get the AF coat and a Jaustacorp/Jaustacorp +1. +2 int / +2 mnd on the jaust, +14 mp -3 enmity and +10 enfeebling on the AF. Personally, I don't want to bother with the af until I feel I need it for the sleeps (not one resist yet with elemental seal...so no need, imo...until Maat at least).

SHD - no need to improve

AMMO - good untl lv66 when you can get phantom tathlum. Hope you camped it and didn't buy it. I saved myself 55k gil (cost 50k at the time and I made about 5k profit), in addition to the 150k I made camping it for extra drops.

Earrings - Sell one of those morion's and get a Moldavite earring. Lv45, Magic Attack Bonus +5. Rare/ex, drops off a goblin NM in labyrinth of onzozo. Really long name...forgot it. Then you're set for the rest of the game It's free too

Rings - good, but I'd suggest you either get a set of electrums, or a set of astrals to keep on switch. Any time you get to med to full (afks, start of chains, ect), switch to the electrum/astrals. Once you use the extra 40-50 mp they give you, switch back to zircons. Helpful to make casting debuffs free occassionally. Not that expensive to do either (30k for 40mp)

Cape - you pointed it out yourself. Black Cloak +1 or Red Cape +1 until that Rainbow Cloak thing at lv72. I picked Black to save myself 50k. Don't plan on selling it till lv72, so I'm happy with my purchase

Hat - best until lv60 (I'm sure you know about our pimpin' hat ). You could also swap this and the tact magician for a Combat Caster Cloak (gains you +1 mnd at the cost of 5 evasion and +1 chr, and a loss of 2 str). I wore the cloak until jaustacorp, as I based it solely on the +int I got. Also, consider getting a hairpin on switch to use just like the astral/electrums. As a taru you shouldn't need to, but it lets you show those elvaan blm's who's the king

Neck - best I've found till lv65. Elemental Torque (+7 elemental skill) and Enfeebling Torque (+7 enfeebling skill - good for adds and Maat, pretty much. I'll buy and use from 65-70 then sell)

Gloves - omg! Do your first AF coffer quest ASAP!!! The gloves are the second best part of the af! +15 elemental skill -1 enmity and +12 mp. Jesus, these things dominate ANY other glove choice you have until upper levels. GOGOGO (plus, Dark spark is a friggin joke.)

Belt - I haven't found any better at all for a taru blm. Taru RSE belt sucks :*( (for mage anyways)

Legs - I'd get the AF coffer armor. It's free, not *that* hard to get, and gives you +mp, -enmity, and +15 dark skill (helpful to get the drain/aspir in effectively). Don't really know any other pant you'd want to wear aside from Mage's Slacks (+1 int for 50k...no thanks).

Feet - AF, no questions asked. I've seen some people wearing Inferno Sabot's...but I don't see why. You don't get all the effects all the time...so why bother?

Final note - AF's are free. Might as well do them

taga, oompa was suggesting an affordable weapon...i dunno about you but an ice staff is far from affordable for the average person.

700k is a lot, but at least it isn't 2 million like it was last week on midgardsormr. Down to 900k or so from what I hear, but still, that's a lot of hours at 15-25k/hour >_<

ah you guys made me want to look up prices on the staves on titan...which i did not want to do since it would make me cry.

ice staff is now between 155 and 165
dark staff is now just under 200k

i paid...200k for my ice staff and 250k for my darkstaff...

at least i'm not crying a river just yet :x

oh yeah, atropos, you forgot to mention errant pigaches at 72 for blm feet. sure it's got hp to mp, but that -2 enmity stat is a little better than the -1 enmity stat on blm af . the reduced cast interupption rate is nice, but if you're getting interuppted in an exp pt, you're probably doing something wrong anyway.

it's nice to be hume, there's no such thing as a leg piece for humes that can beat the +3 int boost

Definately an old thread. Now I'm 68 and have the following gear:

Ice/Dark/Fire/Light staffs
Black Cloak
Morion earring
Moldavite earring
Achani Obi
Wizards tonbon/gloves/pigaches
Black Cape +1
Goshenite rings (can't see spending 150K for 2 INT)
Phantom Tathlum (goes against what I just said above... ^^)


So yeah, lots of updated gear, lots more levels, and lots of farming later.... Here I am...

I still don't have a morion earring or a phantom tathlum yet, although I do have Ice/Dark/Thunder staves. I've had my moldavite and my black cape +1 for ages now.


About the errant shoes - yeah, they're ok. I'd rather wear zenith pumps...or depending on how good the blm af2 shoes turn out to be, I'll wear them (if they make conserve MP actually noticeable...huge).
