  • Blm/Nin

I was thinking of going as a Blm/Nin. B'cuz of dual weild I figured that I'd use my 2 wands and get +6-10 INT for nuking...
    My questions are:
1.)"How much does a BLM rely on INT for casting?"
2.)"Would I be able to be as effective because I have a higher
    INT?"
3.)"Would the additional power of the spells outweigh the need
    for more nuking?"
ie) I can to 100 dmg in 1 cast instead of 50 dmg in 2 casts,
    thus saving MP.
Note: I know I would be sacrificing MP for INT...
I may l'eggo your Eggo, but I'll be damned if I rolf your waffle...

Sounds like a good combo to me. BLM/NIN has 54 less MP at lvl 50 (which would be around 162 damage) compared to a BLM/NIN which would have 5 extra INT if they duel wield ebony + 1 clubs... 5 int could probably easily do that 162 damage just by not having spells resisted... also you could use Utsusemi:Ichi and the elemental weaking spells to make your nukes even more effective and take a few...

    bottom line:
Probably just as good but many times more expensive (for powders and extra club). You probably won't get as many invites because you don't get any healing spells. You definetely will be the best Nuker though. (I want +5 INT T.T )

That's one thing that bugs me. I'm a BLM and ppl want me to use healing magic. I'm supposed to nuke the living daylights out of mobs (and use enfeeb somethimes), not heal allies...

It's certainly nice to know even if your WHM runs out of MP that the BLM can take over at the end of a xp chain.

Ok, i tried this combo about 2 months ago and it's not as good as blm/whm.

1)You rely heavely on INT for the amount of dmg you do and how you break through monsters resistance. Duel-wielding staffs is nice, it just isn't worth the lose you take in MP and spells for not subbing whm. Besides, you'll want to use one of the BLM shields in the game so duel-wielding becomes irrelevant. Blm Shields are VERY expensive:

lvl 29: Faerie shield: +3 to all elements : between 80-100k gil.
lvl 39: Nymph shield: +2 Defense, +3 to all elements, 120-150k gil.
There's also 2 more shields BLM's can use. A lvl 50something one and a 65 one. They get very expensive. I myself have the Faerie shield.

2)No, you wouldn't be as effective. Yes you have a few extra INT, but Nin get no bonuses to MP so you lack MP and you cant use one of the BLM shields since you're duel-wielding.

3)No. You'd do maybe 5-10 more damage per spell with an extra wand in your hand. And you'd have about 50 less mp and you'd lose a lot of the WHM spells, and again, you won't have a BLM shield to boost all your elements.

Again, i've tried this, and believe in pvp it might be interesting. But otherwise, you're gimping yourself and your abilities if you play a BLM/NIN rather then a BLM/WHM.

Those seem absolutely useless to me... when do get targetted by mobs that I need to pay 100k-150k for such tiny increases? Maybe if they gave +int or +mp... elemental resitance and a tiny defense bump aren't worth all that gil. I haven't actively raised my Enhance since level 20 but my Barelementra spells are 20 times stronger than that....

I don't know why he thinks the shields are good... Every BLM I've talked too only wears it because it is all he/she can equip as sub... I mean +3 to all elements??? USELESS! BarXXX gives +60 to one element and costs 12 mp.

There is also astral shield that BLM can equip that converts 25 HP to MP (the only shield that does more than looks for BLM) but costs around a million gil.

I'd party with you. I like combos that are well thought out and break the norm. However don't fall into the pit that I've seen rdm/nin's do (at least the ones I've seen). A lot of rdm/nins think that since they have the enspell on both weapons they are suddenly a warrior again. I highly doubt you'll fall into that pit since you from day 1 are a mage with focus.

That seductive Blm/Nin melee opportunity is almost too strong to resist... I don't know... if... I... can... fight... it..... /em charges into the nearest mob with dual-weilded wands blazing!

Having played with a BLM/NIN, the combination just isn't very good. Yeah, you'll do a little bit more damage from 2 +INT wands, but your half-level ninjutsu wouldn't be much help at all. Look at your role as a whole... you've got lots of MP, and you'll rarely use all of it during a fight. So you can greatly help your party as a backup healer. Divine Seal + Curaga while the WHM is resting is a guaranteed time-saver that makes it possible to keep chaining.
