What's it good for, what's it used for, and why?

Personally, it seems like a rather useless spell, but I may be wrong. I'm looking for opinions before I buy.

    Thoughts?

The only use I can find for it, is if there are a crap load of DWs around your dead body. Get a BLM in your party to cast tractor on you to pull you away from harm's way, before casting raise.

    Tho, will this attack enemies???

      Tractor is a VERY usefeul.

When there are a bunch of aggro mobs around a dead body, a BLM can "pull" it to safety with tractor. AFAIK, this will not aggro nearby enemies (or it would be pretty useless) Then the WHM can raise with no fear of aggro.

Tractor is cheap too. I had fun tractoring my friends corpse from the middle of the open area outside Delkfut's Tower (from beneath two wights) to the tower entrance and (relative) safety.

Tractor gets more and more usefull the higher up I go... I had to use it about 10 times this week (Mostly for other parties that didn't have BLM)

How does it cast? Can you tractor from another zone?

You can only tractor someone you see. It's used to get corpses away from agro since you can't cast raise with invis on.

Yeah Tractor is definately a good spell. I have a little combo I have done once.

                NIN 2hr. Tractor, Raise.

w00t you just did alot of damage and now the Nin just goes and hides in the cut somewhere.

^^^^ Not good to do every 2hr's it's a BS combo for having fun.

Now Tractor is one of those spells after you get it. You come up with games to play with it. Like Hide the body. Go to one of your countries and get a group of friends and have someone go to a lvl1 character. Then let them fight something and die. Now what you do is you hide the body. Then your friends go out and look for it. I swear it is really fun. There is also a time limit on the game you only have an hour to find the body. Now think about it like this. If you are using Zone wide hiding then you are going to have a ball. I swear it is really fun.

That and if you are really mischevious you can cast Tractor right before a whm casts Raise you can sometimes pull people away from being raised. Though they don't ever seem to be happy when you do that.

                Go figure.

But yeah I love tractor. It is one of those spells that you can make really fun to play with.

I tried it out the other day and it didn't seem to have any effect. How exactly does it work on my end and on the victums end?

simply cast it...on the receiving end, you get a message, similar to raise where the receiver decides to accept the tractor or to decline it...if they accept, they will be tractored to your feet. if they decline, they will stay where they are.

say you see a dead body not to far from tractoring range. you cast it and that person gets a puff of black smoke blah blah and a question asking if they wanna be moved. yes/no?

If yes they move to the casters feet.

The real problem with this spell is that the person being tractored 'zones'. I see no logical reason for this, and it's very annoying.

Of course, I find it very irritating that you can't drag a dead person around at will. On occasions when getting a raise is useful and you have no White Mage in the group, it'd certainly be nice to be able to drag the dead person TO another white mage in the zone. Would certainly be less inconveniencing for the white mage, as well as for their group.

Koyasha, I'm guessing that when the game moves you to a specific coordinate set without any activity on the client's part (namely, movement), it does that. I messed around with Warp the other day (2 ft Warp! Yay... I was bored.) and it dezoned me and rezoned me in the exact same zone. I'm guessing there is some purpose to that, just not sure what exactly.

For Warp, I can understand. I presume it clears agro, like in-zone evacs did in EverQuest (early on in EQ, they didn't do this, and monsters remained agro even after the evac). So zoning even on an in-zone teleport seems normal. However, I don't get it for Tractor, after all, the person's already dead, so they don't have any agro TO clear.

I would be happy if Tractor were just made zone-wide, though, even with the zoning thing. At least then you could Tractor someone to a White Mage for a raise. It would be such a pain to try to do that now.

Actually, it's not always the case. There was once where my wife's character somehow got stuck on a boat in Windurst by falling through the cracks.

After contacting the GM, she was moved a few steps out of the pit of the boat, and this was done without zoning. She just went invisible for a second, and her screen moved side ways then she appeared again.

So I guess it's not a technical requirement for them, but just that the programmers decided to implement the tractor this way.
