if someone could explain what it means by leveling Jobs
what it means by "leveling jobs" is you gain "experience points" everytime you defeat a monster worthy of your job level...you will remember "experience" from previous final fantasies..everytime you reach a certain point you will level up.

like you start out at level 1...and you need 500 experience points to reach the next level..level 2....you will hunt monsters and battle them...if you defeat them you will get a certain amount of experience points depending on how tough the monster is you beat...when you reach 500 you will level up to level 2.

like you will "check" a monster...and it will give you a reading as to how tough that monster is according to your job level.

    for example

    Incredibly Tough(140-200range)
    Very Tough(120-140range)
    Tough(100-120range)
    Even Match (75-100range)
    Decent Challenge (35-75 range)
    easy prey (10-35 range)
too easy to be worth your time (0)

that is just an estimate...to show example...not the exact number...those are experience points btw...so you would get experience points based on the toughness of your defeated enemy.

and so that basically explains what it means by "levelling up" a job.

I have seen people say you can lv you (XXXXX) Job to 25 and your (XXXX) job to 35 can someone explain what they mean
when you finally reach the level of 18..you will go on a quest that will enable you to have a subjob...so you can pick between the 5 starting jobs as to which one you want as a subjob warrior, monk, black mage, white mage, red mage, thief.

your subjob cannot be more then half of your main job at anytime...if your mainjob is 20 your subjob cannot go higher then 10...untill you level up your mainjob...even if your subjob is level 70 if you put it as your subjob and your mainjob is 20...you still will only be able to use up to level 10 of your subjob.

so you just gotta remember you can only have your subjob at half the level of your mainjob.

some things to remember about a subjob are:

cant equip stuff that your sub can use exclusively equip and your main job can't use....your main job determines what you can equip or what weapons you have, etc.

example..the warhammer is a club type of weapon that can only be used by a white mage...if you have a white mage as your main job you can use this weapon...if you have white mage as a subjob you will not be able to use this weapon...you will have to use stuff based on your mainjob not sub.

you gain all the abilities of your subjob except the 2 hour special ability each job has.

example..the monk's 2hour special ability is called "100 fists" (something like that) and upon use he just bashes the enemy with punch after punch after punch..for a short duration....you can use this special ability if you have monk as your main job...you cannot use it if monk is your subjob..you will only be able to use your main job's 2 hour special ability.

you can change main jobs and sub jobs at will....it will not effect anything about your jobs....like i am a level 20 black mage and level 5 white mage....i could go to my mog house and switch my main job to white mage and sub job to black mage...now i will be a level 5 white mage and level 2 black mage.

ok...but nothing changes from my black mage...i just can use half of my main jobs level...if i switch back again....i will still be a level 20 black mage with everything the same as it was.

i hope this explains the jist of it..if you have any further questions just ask.

      are Black mages any good
really all jobs are good....all jobs serve a purpose and compliment the other jobs..no matter what job you are you will be usefull in some way..

if you like to dish out lots of damage and like "dark" spells and destruction yeah thaan black mage will be good for you...if you like to help people and heal them, etc then white mage would be good for you, etc.

I was thinking of been BLM/WHM/SMN can someone explain how I do that
you cant have 3 jobs...only 2....summoner is an "advanced job"..and you cant have an advanced job till the level of 30...at 30 you can do a quest to make this job available to you.

and then you can use it like any other job...main job, subjob whatever.

but it would have to be black mage/white mage or black mage/summoner or summoner/whitemage,etc.
