the reason Why people want BLM's Is that they Give a Constant Stream of High Damage.

Unlike other classes they need to prepare or do use Job Skills in order to break our damage.

I'm glad KobanTheCatBoss cause I would sometimes stay close enough for AE spells. Now I'm as far as possible. I try to tell my mage pt members to do the same so that we can use those cures for the warriors instead. I'm glad that some listen after seeing constant bomb tosses from gobbies in valkrum hitting them. -=)

        Stonega

I am posting this here because is deals directly with hate between lvls 13-19

Ok... I learned this from experience and from groups of people telling me.

Use that spell only when one, there is noone other creatures around. That is a very important thing. It hits any and all creatures in that area. It took me dieing 4 times to realize this. It was a pain but I learned it eventually.

This spell is strong but at the same time. It really gets you hate fast. I mean really fast.

So watch out for when you use it, I am giving a heads up. I have had is a while and I just learned this. I thought I would give other people a heads up.

No one other thing. I have to say this.

There is one other problem with being a BLM when you cast something strong and wait. You start getting people to bitch. "Why aren't you casting?" That is all I heard one day. I staryed in the party because it was a good party. But I keep hearing this. Because I would cast then wait. I had the lowest HP and Defense out of everyone in the party. So I continued to wait.

The problem comes in where do you want to cast a spell that might draw enough hate to bring what your fighting towards you. Or do you want to wait to be healed. I am actually usually the one to go ahead and cast and just pray.

        But to each her/his own.

Those are just a couple notes I thought I would toss out. To get people to think about. Man I so love Stonega but hate it at the same time.

I swear I think I have the record for the most times dead on a lvl. I died 25 times on lvl 13 trying to get back to 14.

        That's it from me.

I've always felt that the best way to handle hate is to not join the fight right away.
Keep regenerating your MP at the beginning of the fight.. Let the melee land a few hits, build aggro and such...
Then you get up off your taru-butt and cast.
No chain-casting because no matter what you do before, chain-casting will eventually get that goblin's attention...
An idea to delay your heavy hate gain is to start only by casting some support spells, like Bio, and whatever else that could use casting and isn't being cast by a RDM or WHM (Blind is one...)

Chain casting near the end of a battle works well to kill the enemy off... just need to learn not to over do it and waste a 40-50 MP spell just to take off the last 20hp the mob had left.

Yeah that took me a sec. To learn. Now that I have hit 18 and I have my Sub done, the interesting thing is trying to get my Cure Ability stronger, and get my rdm stronger so that it actually helps my Blm out more then, just the HP and little Mp. But I have to say one thing. Having a Subjob helps alot.

Actually I do that to, I will stay seated for a sec. then get up and start helping. I just think that jumping up at the beginning is useless, if the Warriors know what the hell there doing they shouldn't need me really early in the fight.

Though that is a note that i need to get out of the group, if the warriors start losing lots of Hp at the beginning of the fight. (Unless we are fighting something really strong)

The waiting depends on how your melee provoke, if they only provoke when a monster goes after someone, waiting will most likely get you hit. The reason is that as the monster hits the melee their hate goes down, so if the melee provoke, then fight for a minute or so and you cast a spell then, the melee probably lost most of their hate by then and the monster will go after you.

Now on the other hand if you are in a pt with melee that provoke every time they can, you can be pretty sure that the lower the hp of the monster the more hate the melee have built up.

For that reason I prefer pt's where the melee always provoke, if they do that you can have a very good idea of when you can cast your strong spells or not and end up with the monster always fighting the melee and not running around hitting mages. It's more efficient for the whm too if it stays on the melee's since it does considerably more damage on mages.

Pt's where the melee only provoke when the monster runs tends to make the hate low and you have a hard time casting spells except right after the provoke, and you generally get hit as a mage in these parties.

Main tanks should always be provoking anyway...
But if they do only provoke on a 'need-to-voke' basis (heh) it can work.. just.. too many factors that depend on a good pt.

It will become easier to control your hate at higher levels as you have more spells to choose from.

Spell sequence becomes kinda like the following (for me anyway):
Drain>Aspire>Blizzard>Blizzard>Blizzard>Blizzard 2 (MB) and maybe another Blizzard 2 to finish off the monster.

I usually only get hate if I heal with a big cure and follow with a tough nuke... or if the PLD is dead (in this case Im usually the next in line).

And yes some monsters have devastating attacks, the worst of them being... BLMs ! There is a reason why in BC battles the first thing you kill is always the BLM. One cast of ancient magic=one dead body in your PT.
Yesterday we let one of those Antica Signifiers cast Flood on the tank, the 50 PLD went from 1100 to 0 in one shot...
