When does BLM become less nervewrecking

im a lvl 9 black mage, and alot of the time i find myself constantly worrying about dying, and not really doing this "insane" damage im always hearing about. I thought Blm would be a more run around have fun killing type of job than a try to not get killed job. Im at lvl 9 and i was just wondering at what level id proably die less and id have more fun than just worrying all the time

The life of a blm, especially if you are a Taru blm is very hard for the early levels. I'm now a lvl 34 taru blm/ 16 rdm. You have to understand that blm will, especially after lvl 10, lose the ability to solo more than most other classes. You will start to do much better after lvl 18 and start joining parties where other than the warrior tank, there should be at least 1 or 2 other melee with provoke from a warrior subjob. You will also not see yourself doing good critical damage till around then as well. Until around 20 or so, you really won't be seeing yourself signifigantly outdamage the melee classes much. If your idea of fun is runninng around alone and killing things, the most suited job for you would be beastmaster (of course you have to hit lvl 30 before you can become a bst). The job of the blm is as heavy damage support - you stay at the camp spot and med between kills. Your damage output at later levels will definitely exceed most other classes by a pretty wide margin. With experienced players in a high level group you should not be getting hit. Regaurdless, it will take at least 250-300 hp before you start becoming relatively safe from dying TOO easily.

There is an easier way. If you level your WHM to 18 first (which is a lot easier to level than BLM without sub), get the sub job option, and then level BLM/WHM as main if you want BLM to be your main job. Later on when you need to level WHM sub to compliment your BLM, go WHM/SMN.

im in sandoria and i am a lvl 9 blm, would it be faster to switch to whm and get to lvl 18 or would i just be better off staying as a blackmage, i do want blm to be my main, but i think either a smn subjob or whm subjob would work for me just fine, just help me out with wat i should do pleeeeeeeease

lvl 9 is somewhat close to getting PT, but lvling BLM solo without sub can sometimes be quite frustrating, especially if you die and level down. Being able to heal yourself while fighting makes a huge difference.

Ideally, you'd level your WHM to 18 first, apart from making it much easier to play your BLM with WHM sub (more MP, heal, cure status, etc.), you will have to level your WHM to sub your BLM later on anyway, having it at 18 means you won't have to go back to level it until your BLM hits 38.

Another alternative is you join PT every time you go out to fight. Which is not necessary at these levels, but its safer if you don't have WHM sub.

im lvl9 blm in sandora and im not doing to bad. if you get the highest armor for your level and you blind and or bind the enemy you shouldnt get hit to much and even if they do hit it wont be for massive dmg. im sitting right outside the orc camp and killing all of the grap/fod/mesm in the area and having almost no problem at all. i get about 25 exp from each kill so it isnt to bad. if ur in garuda id be happy to help you sometime
