Black Mages and timing.

From my close friend Renier I hear that soloing with a Black Mage is possible but you must have the correct timing between being hit and casting. Sounds alot like EQ to me. If I could play I would find out so if anyone can support this information please do.

At level 5 i could kill sheep, as long as my timing was good... but when i slipped up even slightly, i'd lose my momentum an get toasted. Granted, i was near to death after every fight but i won very consistantly. Probably would've made more sense to fight something my level but i'm thick-skulled... Now i'm BLM 8 and sheep seem so puny... I spent some time at lower levels building up my staff skill and i'm pretty effective in melee... doing the same damage as my fighter friends, albiet much slower... and with a good deal less hp. But it does the job quite well. Anybody have an opinion as to about what level i'll be forced to party? heal time and power-leveling aside, that is. Not that i'm adverse to partying, but i don't like to share treasure (grin)

i'm sorry but your friend was wrong, you cant solo a black mage past lvl 15ish, no matter how good timing you have...

most people agree that the only class that you can just barely solo with is beastmaster.

I have to disagree with you about not soloing past 15. I solo'd most of my 23 lvls as a blm. Sure it will take you a long time but it is very doable. Just hunt Maze Makers in Shakrami Maze. At lvl 15 they should still give you at least 100exp per kill and if your timing is right you will have killed one and not take a hit in return.

Sounds like my Wizard on EQ. If you are good enough you can kill an enemy in one hit with a good spell. Well thanks. And Reneir I should have my GPU by next week and hopefully that will fix the problem so we can party.

sure you can solo on worms at 15... however when i am partying i am leveling 4x as fast as you are... why solo?
and there's no 1 hit kill on black mage
you can cast a flare,and it can do up to 1200 damage on a low level monster... however to a monster your level which probably have 4000 hp... what will you do? you wn't have enough mp to probably even cast flare twice... blm in ffxi is not what most people think it is

Soloing is just fun. Sometimes you just dont feel like dealing with other people. I mean its not all about leveling. I know I will be taking breaks and just killing lower level enemies to make quick cash. I mean sure the dont give alot of money but I can kill em faster than monsters my level.
