  • Is this spell worth buying right now?

I'm about to reach lvl 10 as a BLM and I was wondering if I should buy the spell blazespikes right now. I've seen it in the AH for 3600 gil and that seems like a lot. So should I spend that much for the spell? Also does anyone know where to get bio?

I was never a black mage, but I do know that all the black mages I talked with loved Blaze Spikes. If something attacks you, they get hurt when you have that spell cast. I'd see if you can get it through a quest or a monster before I spend over 3K on it, though.

you get it from the Wild Onions side quest. that's where i got it. i can't use it yet, but i have it.

i suggest buying Water and Aero. they are good spells to have. Blind isn't all that useful, neither is Bio or Poison. at least not that i've found. Bind is ok. i haven't gotten that yet. i've been looking for it. maybe i should make a stop at the AH and see if someone is selling it.

          Taken from http://www.gamefaqs.com

quest is from windurst, the first one must be completed in order to get the quest for blazespikes.

          A Gang for Justice -- ?3‹`‚̈ꖡ
          from: Kohlo-Lakolo (behind warehouses, G5)
          reqs: --
          gets: Justice Badge
soln: Trade Rarab's Tail [ƒ‰ƒ‰ƒu‚Ì‚µ‚Á‚Û], dropped by Bumblebee in East Sarutabaruta.

          Ghost House -- ƒIƒoƒP‚̉Æ
          from: Kohlo-Lakolo (behind warehouse, G5)
reqs: Clear "A Gang for Justice" quest
          gets: Blazespike
soln: Trade 4x Wild Onion [ƒ?ƒCƒ‹ƒhƒIƒjƒIƒ“], dropped by Goblin Thugs.

Bio is most likely sold in bastok or selbina(one of those 2 for sure), but could also be found in windy or sandy. Even if you don;t use bio much, it may be a good idea to get it for raising dark magic level(or you can also use it if you sub WHM or RDM later.)

thank you for the quest info

windurst is number one in conquest now, it had been third, so i was able to get bio from the magic shop.

Bind is ok. i haven't gotten that yet. i've been looking for it. maybe i should make a stop at the AH and see if someone is selling it.
bind is a very useful in my opinion for soloing, or if some one in your party can do ranged attacks.

Blaze spikes does damage back. I don't know a whole lot about it, but if you're in a group (since you can't cast it on others,) I'd avoid it.

I'm no professional on how hate in FFXI works, but if it's anything like other MMORPGs, doing damage to a monster gets you more hate. If you have that shield on and it turns on you for nuking it too much, everytime your shield fires back you'll just piss it off more. Solo yes, group probably no.

As for whoever said blind isn't much good - it's a spectacular spell, you really should use it more. For little-to-no aggro or mp you can effectively cut down on a monsters damage ability. Poison, I agree is useless. Bio, on the other hand, can be quite good if you're only partnering. Lowering attacking damage is great although the damage part might give too much aggro. There is a reason it's such an expensive spell to cast.

And if it really gives dark, hey why not?
