  • Q > Starting as a Blm

I was wondering what spells a Blm starts off with (if any) and how much money you get to equip yourself when you start (an approximate answer would be good if you dont know the exact amount).

Also i wondered how much Bind is and what level it is.

Maybe a small list of the more useful spells to get in the first levels (1-10 or so) just so i dont blow what little money i start with on something useless.

I will be starting in windurst so i guess a fire spell would be good aswell as bind....

Well with every spell you suggest please put it in order of useful-ness and include the level to use and money to buy.

Thanks, if someone can help with all that i will have my plans for FFXI set in stone :p

Edit: P.s: Because taru are soooo vertically challenged is it hard to shop for things due to the person not being able to see over the counter??

When you first create your character and choose BLM, you'll have the scroll "Stone" in your inventory. But if your start out as anything else and then switch to BLM, you won't have "Stone" in your inventory and you'll have to buy it. I think Bind is lvl 9... And most of the spells lvls 1-10 you should buy because you'll be using those the most.

Up to level 11, you should buy every spell as soon as you can. All of them are useful. They're all pretty cheap. Also, you should get Bind and Blind for free from killing Yagudo and Goblin casters. You'll get Blaze Spikes free from a quest. The direct-damage elemental spells are most important (Stone, Water, Aero), and then the supporting spells like Poison, Blind, Bind, and Bio.

You start off with 10 gil, a coupon you turn in for 50 gil, and Stone, as tomfin10 said. But you'll earn your real money by selling what you get from killing monsters and by doing quests.

For spells past level 11, it's more complicated. Buy Fire (level 13), Blizzard (level 17), and Thunder (level 21) immediately. Drain (level 12) and Warp (at level 17) are both very important, but because they are semi-tough quest rewards in Sandoria and Bastok (not available for sale in Windurst except at Auction House), they are quite expensive. Save up for them. You can delay buying the status effect spells like Shock and Rasp if you're poor. You should buy the Stonega and Waterga area-effect spells, but again you could delay them a couple levels if you have to. Black mages are generally pretty poor .

About your shopping question You'll see that most of the Taru shop keepers are standing on stools behind their shop counters. It's pretty funny. You won't have any trouble seeing them to use their shops. And everything in Windurst is Taru-sized anyway.
