Kept signa, for BCNM40s (tho not necessary, since I have AF axe, and other +CHR gear).

Bought a Dark Staff immediately.
Got a Light Staff when I had gil.

I got a light staff when I was around 71ish. Until then I had used signa. I sold the signa to buy the light staff, and bought a dark staff waaaaay later. I was using that master caster's pole which had similar effects.

Well I'm no bst, but since they /whm mostly, I would imagine they use a dark staff for the same reason any mage does: to gain MP back faster while resting. I see BST resting a lot while their pet fights a mob, if you are using a dark staff, you will regain your MP all that much faster.

Exactly.

Since a BST (even a Taru one) has so little MP compared to HP, it is generally a good idea to use your MP to cure back HP and then equip dark staff and rest for a minute to regain MP. It reduces the amount of downtime significantly.

For the record, I never bought a signa, and I dont plan to. I spent the 99k on a light staff when I hit level 51, and I've only had maybe 2-3 failed charms with it total. I can even charm VT mobs in an emergency pretty reliably with it.

Not sure really. I dont feel like I've leveled all that fast, but some levels flew by, I'll admit. Having a duo partner helped a lot as well. It allows chains for massive exp if you fight the right mobs, and it allows you to skill up as well, since your chance of getting hate is lower.

Recently I havent leveled BST a lot, so I could be much higher...

HQ light staff doesn't really make a noticable differance compared to a regular light staff. It's more a luxury if you can afford it, but not worth it if you have other things to buy.
