    Re: almost there

Hi there, congrats in advance for nearing 30.

I unlocked Bard at 30 but that was with beastmaster,
If I remember I didnt have much trouble getting there, if not ask a friend or ls member to escort you, personally i think you'd be fine because if i can do it anyone can "I spend too much time chatting"

look at ffxiclopedia for info on quests and such.

    good luck

The quest to unlock BRD is stupidly easy. You'll have no trouble whatsoever getting it done. Just follow the instructions carefully, and you'll be good to go.

It's not an ideal soloing job. BRD has low damage output, and wears mediocre armor. You can slowly, slowly chip away at things later on when you have Lullaby, but even then, you're going to get so much better exp in a party.

Given enough BRDs ... even I as a RDM can go long hours w/o an invite

Bard may be terrible at soloing, but then, once they're at party levels they don't need to solo. Bards are very popular for parties, more so the higher up you get. Just keep in mind that the two-song limit is per individual -- your job is to run around and hit people with the right songs for their category of job through careful positioning. You may need to do a little work to make sure the other party members are standing in the right places for this. -- Pteryx

Actually, last I knew this was a yes. Good freaking luck getting two bards in a party, though. -- Pteryx

                  Re: almost there

                  The quest....

First you must complete the "Old monument quest"

Bring a Parchment along to complete A Minstrel in Despair while you are in Buburimu Peninsula.
                  • This quest is HIDDEN, and cannot be seen in your Quest list until completed.
                  • If you're not already on a high level job then change to a level 30 job to start this quest.
                  • Mertaire (I-8, Merry Minstrel Meadhouse in Lower Jeuno), will lament on a lost love.
                  • Talk to Bki Tbujhja, behind the counter in the same room, who talks about the Song Runes in Buburimu Peninsula and how it would cheer up the broken-hearted.
                  • Head to Buburimu Peninsula and on the western edge of the Khoonta Dunes (beach) there is a hidden path in the shallows (G-10) that takes you to (F/G-9).
                  • Click the Song Runes, on the west side up from the beach for a cutscene with Lewenhart to complete the quest. Don't forget to trade the Parchment to the Song Runes before you leave!!
Next you need to do the bard quest..
                  • These quests are HIDDEN, and cannot be seen in your Quest list until completed.
                  • Go to the following quest and complete it first: The Old Monument (you've just done this hopefully)
                  • Go back to Lower Jeuno and talk to Bki Tbujhja again. She mentions another set of Song Runes in Valkurm Dunes.
                  • Head to the Secret Beach at far west of Valkurm Dunes (C-6). Drop out onto the hidden beach and head south east to the bottom right of (B-7).
                  • Click on the Song Rune for another cutscene to complete the quest.
Hope fully then you are a bard. Bring prism powders if your below 34 for valkrum to avoid gobbie agro

You don't need another sheet of parchment for this as when you click on the runes you get a cut scne with Mertaire.

                    >_>; Did you get the Kazham Airship Pass, yet?

Suggest you worry about that before unlocking Bard. (Which actually involves three quests, but needing only one Parchment, I believe.)
