  • Pld, the new sub option?

Now that pld has autorefresh at lvl 35, does this open up a new option for 70+ brds? Consider, currently we use whm for cures and status fixes. Pld provides the same cures one through three, minus curaga one and two which are important to consider. However, we would now have an autorefresh to stack with ballad, refresh, and vermy. As an added bonus this would give us sentinal and two defence up traits from pld which is a nice perk for those brds out pulling.

It would of course be situational in that it needs to be a non-status effect enemy and non-aoe dmg enemy. In that situation, it would increase our healing power with only a small mp cost (get so little mp from sub as is). It is somewhat limited for endgame merit parties since sky is heavy on the aoe dmg and krt is heavy on the status effects as is Lufeise Meadows. Thoughts?

I'd have to say no, /whm is so much more important and useful int he long run, teleports, Raise, reraise (not sure on level of reraise :sweat) , regen, curaga + divine seal plus the whole line on -na spells

You're willing to give that up for refresh? I've partied with many Brd and I've never seen them hurting for mp post ballad II

    Just my opinion

for soloing if you're using sword I can see pld as an option, from a rdm point of view by the way.
Can BRD use shields? because if not, I don't think you're getting all the benefit of /pld

Brd can use shields, but they shouldn't while exping.

My main point was pld sub will give 1,200 mp an hour for free and still has curing abiltiy. Before now, the only way to do that was sub smn, but that has no cures.

Tele dem, mea, and holla are used little for exp parties 70+. If they are needed, someone else in the party will usually have it, either the rdm, whm, or blm. Raise 1 and reraise 1 are used very little 70+, especially if you have a whm along. If you have no whm, then you likely have a rdm, pld, or blm who can cast raise 1. Regen1 is a waste of time to being cast 70+. -na spells don't help against enemies without status effects (which was a pre-condition I listed for using this sub). Curaga would also not help much against enemies without aoe which was another pre-condition I stated for using the sub.

Divine seal used every 10 minutes with cure 3 (strongest cure for a party not needing curaga) is 46 mp saved which gives you the equivalent of mp an hour if you use it on the dot everytime and for the full benefit. 460 is much less than the 1,200 you would get from autorefresh. Divine seal used with curaga 2 is 120 mp saved every 60 mins, so 800 mp saved which is still left. However, this isn't very accurate because pld wouldn't have curaga2 available and its hard to compare mp efficieny of pld doing single target with autorefresh vs a whm sub doing aoe heals and divine seal. Thus, I recommend just for use in parties not taking much aoe dmg.

You have been playign with lazy brds then. Not only do I run out regularly, but I don't have ballad on myself half the time. This is because of the speed of my parties. I do melee buffs, pull, do mage buffs, pull, rinse, repeat. Thus, I only get ballad half the time and unless I get refresh constantly from the rdm, I run out of mp fast. Even then, I typically run low.

Just imagine combining this with vermillion cloak.

How much damage do you take on pulls? I imagine some of your MP must be used on yourself if you are running out. If that's the case, how much damage will the PLD abilities and traits nullify?

Other than that, I guess my main question would be the depletion over time. 1,200 MP an hour sounds nice, but that's still 20 a minute. If your use is steady, then this could work. But if it spikes, with PLD's limited MP reserve, you could find yourself in the same predicament. Of course, minor spurts will allow you to change your tactics, ask for a Refresh every 10 minutes, etc.

Majority of mp for a brd comes from the equipment. I average around 500 mp on my brd in exp gear. Sub is only providing about 120 I think. Not sure how much pld would provide, but I would estimate 50+. According to this stat calculator it is 137 from whm and 80 for pld. Formuleas get screwy 60+, but I think that is a reasonable amount. My mp use is pretty consistent and steady. 1-3 cures per fight, more if the healer is resting, less if they have full mp.

I typically take one to two hits per pull. I can pull without getting hit, but usually I have to sleep it at camp because I pull a little before the party is ready. Thus, for me to sleep it usually results in a hit or two. Even when I don't sleep it and the party takes it immidiately, the tank is usually very slow and I still get 1-2 hits.

With either sub I'm getting hit. However, with the pld sub it would be a little less dmg. Not a big differnce, but an added perk at least.
