Been Out The Loop. Level 50 Questions

Hi guys.

Been AFK from BRD for a while now and forgot where I was, where I was going and what my name is. Sold all my BRD EQ in a bid to raise gil for my WHM (Raise III >.<) and now I am heading back into the BRD fold with an empty head.

1) As far as I can tell the only two Artifact items that are any use are Hat (pimpness is important) and Gloves for +CHR. Do people agree this is fair?

2) I have picked up some Raptor items which I have kept should I ever pick up my BRD again. However I am interested in peoples opinion on level 50EQ. I am TaruTaru.

And finally my last and most important question.
3) How many boards would the mongrels hoard if the mongrel hordes got bored?

1.) All the pieces have use, just some more than others. The cannions and slippers are both important to have, the slippers mainly cuz theres nothing better to equip for awhile and the cannions because skill is very important in resists and it also increase song power.

2.) I wore tact magician coat, combat caster slacks, RSE boots, RSE gloves, gold hairpin, corsette+1, bird whistle, some random cape, and my AF dagger/duel rapier and i switched between electrum rings and chr rings at the time depending on how lazy i wanted to be. Raptor gear works, but tact magician coat has some +chr on it i know. Theres probably better choices out there for weapon and armor too, but this was a long time ago when i was lvl 50

Being WHM as my main I have the obliatory Light Staff and Dark Staff. I was considering sacraficing the 2 extra CHR I would have got from my Paper Knife in favour of these. Sound reasonable?

I also heard that the elemental staves have an effect on song effectiveness. I.E. Stave X increases probability of Song Y landing. Is this true?

Yes, Light staff will make Lullaby stronger, or resist less or something i never see a differance really same with earth staff and elegy etc

Yeah, the elemental staves are ideal. And yes, what you've heard is true.

The chr isnt going to make much of a difference either way. Thats just what i used. Long before brds began using elemental staves and probably before the effects were fully understood.

I only used gloves in xp parties

Tactician Magician's Coat +1 chr
Aurora Mantle +10 mp
Noble's Ribbon +3 chr
or
Gold Hairpin +30 mp
Corsette +1 +6 chr
Bird Whistle +3 chr

I used Hume RSE feet & legs and switched mp / chr rings and earrings depending on resists.

Weapons.. used AF dagger for ages until I could afford Monster Signa and some elemental staves

Hmmm - seeing as its going for about 15k on my server, I was wondering - is the job specific ring for Bards (Level 50, -25% spellcasting speed) worth replacing one of your +CHR rings with? Since it'll carve about 2 or 3 seconds off of each of your songs, is it worth the +2 or 3 charisma bonus when you're starting to have things like Jester's Cape opening up?

Must have both Yellow Life, AND less than 100% TP.

If you want to run around with yellow life, it could be useful. I never tried this ring. Wouldn't feel safe running around with yellow HP, and the song casting time never bothered me much.. its the recast time that gets to me >_<

Huh. I didn't think it said that it was a latent effect on the ring - just that it was the standard effect for it. I'll double check though - thanks for the head's up.

To add to my own thread.

I am TaruTaru BRD and I have 2 Astral Rings and 2 Loyalty Rings. I am considering ditching the Loyalty Rings in preference for Allure Rings but was wondering if the Astrals might be better. MP isn't a major issue as I am TaruTaru but the extra 50 MP could be just what the party ordered in a tight spot.

In case you need some more info my EQ ATM is:
2 * Melody Earings +1
Jesters Cape +1
Corsette +1
Noble Ribbon
Bird Whilst
All the elemental staves
All the +2 instruments

Ideas? Suggestions? Personal preferences?

As most people would say, just macro the astrals in and out when needed and keep the other rings. Also depends on how resistant a particular mob is since that's what the CHR is for. This is probably ideal if you want to spend the money.

I never saw the point in switching mp gear in and out in the same battle, unless you plan on being able to refresh it quick enough to make it worth while. As Elvaan BRD I plan on using my Astrals till lvl75, unless some better combination of gear comes up.
