Someone has told me that Threnodies stack. Now, I know there's the elmental circle that people like to go through to land a certain threnody on an HNM, is this the same thing as stacking? If not, which threnodies stack and do any threnodies cancel another out?

Hmmm...
I know about the circle to land threnodies, but I haven't heard about the stacking. I use a lot of threnodies and our BLM has never noticed two on at once. If they stacked at all, I rather doubt it but I'm open to testing it, they prolly stack in the same manner as BLM elemental enfeebles. I don't know those off hand but I know they stack and cancel in funny ways. I'm gonna check tho.

There is a solid as bricks limit to 1 threnody on a particular target at once and I'm yet to see a way of getting round it regardless of what order I threnody in.
Its simple to test, pick a mob, spam it with threnodies, then wait for the single 'your threnody has worn off' message.Sebazy - Taru Brd/Snob - Midgardsormr

Having said that, threnodies *are* resistable things, and therefore landing threnody A, will lower resistance to element A ... and another threnody B is gonna be element A, so it'll now be easier to land. (Threnodies, you'll recall, are not their own element. They're the element that *beats* the element you're weakening.)
So if you want to land Ice Threnody but it just isn't landing, note that Ice Threnody is itself fire elemental. So if you can land Fire Threnody successfully, that will make it easier to land Ice Threnody (as you've weakened the resistance to fire, and Ice Threnody is fire elemental). On some enemies you may have to go further back around the circle.
But in the above example, if you *did* land Ice Threnody (after making it easier to do that, with Fire Threnody), it would still replace Fire Threnody. Because the statement always holds true that any given target can only have one Threnody on it at a time. No matter how many bards you have, with or without instruments. One threnody.
