Galka BRD

Hey all, I have decided to take up the role of Galkan BRD, Could someone give me a run down of what gear I should have from levels 1-40. I'm really new to this job and am kinda clueless. I have about 2 million to spend, I like to be decked out so go ahead and tell me the best equipment from 1-40.

Here's some pre-40 EQ I'd recommend, assuming you're subbing WHM:

-ALL +2 instruments (important)
-Noble's ribbon
-Bird whistle
-Monster signa (great until 51)
-Astral rings (will be a great help with your low MP as Galka)
-+MP earrings
-Zealots/Devotees mitts
-Friar's rope
-Corsette +1 (can't wear it till 40 though)

All the rest doesn't really matter IMO...note that I play a Hume, and used RSE for pants and feet. I don't really know the specifics of Galka RSE, but I hear it gives a lot of MP so you might wanna consider using that.

And definitely collect your entire RSE set as soon as you can -- you won't regret it. Do note, though, that the early levels of BRD are fairly challenging to get through; you don't really start to take off until you learn Ballad I.

Also, before you get started, I highly recommend that you read the awesome BRD FAQ posted in this forum. It'll give you an excellent rundown of the job and teach you all the basics.

Galka really get the most total points (hp+mp) out of bard compared to other races. While a taru brd would have 600 hp and 150mp, the galka bard gets like 1,000 hp and 40mp since brd main job is focused solely on hp. Considering most of my mp comes from gear rather than sub, you aren't losing much mp by going galka, but you are gaining a big load of hp.

first off, for buff songs you are at no disadvantage, your main problems are MP and CHR.

I think galka have the same CHR as mithra so that would make the CHR gap only -6 at level 75, yes you can notice that but its not game-breaking^^

with some race-specific items you can have decent MP, remember the base MP of mithra and hume BRD/WHM is only 137 at level 75, so most BRD MP points normally come from items/equipment and food anyway.

i'd be curious to know how much your 'spirits within' is going to do^^

Don't give into the Stigna pressure!

Really, I've yet to run into a situation where Enchanting Etude can't do just as well as the Stigna does, and I HAVE run into situations where my party has NOT been on the ball when I have been, and I've ended up eating up to 5 hits at one point (two hits with double attack activating and a normal one - 105 damage each with a full Gambison armor worn at level 36) and was in the double digits for HP before someone 'voked it off me. That -5 VIT CAN hurt, although as a Galka you've got a lot more wiggle room given the amount of HP you have.

And if you run into situations where you are fighting monsters that you need more than +16 charisma to reliably land your songs on the enemy, you're either fighting enemies way above your level bracket, or are well past 40 or 50 and able to afford a Stigna much more easily than a Bard in their 20s.

+1 Insturments are a big plus, but even the normal Song +1 versions can be a big help - keep in mind that it can be pretty easy to not get a chance to farm as a Bard - I've been in Crawler's Nest for the last 3 days and jumped from 35 to 40, and haven't had an opportunity to get out as friends of mine keep begging me to party *right now* - simply plan ahead for picking up your songs and insturments, so you at least have the bare essentials onhand.

As for Astral Rings - I prefer Hope Rings for the quick +2 CHR each, but Galka might want a bit more MP in case things go south. Personally, I might as well not even have my MP of late for how much its been needed in XP parties (leading to odd thoughts of 'can I sub Black Mage instead?') but I'm also a Hume.

Don't let people say that you can't play Bard well as a Galka though - it might look a bit odd, but when your insturment is larger than your average Taru, people had best respect your playing. ^_~

57 Galka BRD/WHM here.

Just play. You'll be fine.

Monster Signa and +1 chr equipment are luxuries, not necessities for xp. +1 instruments are worth it. With RSE gear and ballad, let alone double ballad, you'll have plenty of mp. I have a hard time using up my 162 mp while I have double ballad up.

I have unlocked the Bard job, and leveled BLM to 10, WHM to 10

(Plan on taking WHM to 37 and BLM to 18, than taking BRD to 75 with WHM subbed ^_^) Anyways, I went ahead and bought Astrals for the hell of it. But, Thanks everyone for your comments. New Galkan Bard on the way!
