  • farming gil?

about to restart ffxi after a long absense... going to make a rdm or a bard. Just wondering what bards farm or how they get the majority of their gil. I know rdms can solo easier monsters, but are bards that bad at solo farming?

compared to all other jobs of the same level, in general BRDs take longer to kill the same mob. that's why BRD farming sucks. when a DRK/THF can kill bees and have 4 stacks of beehive chips, a BRD will have one stack.

when a RDM or BLM is killing elementals for crystals, they can kill 10 elementals before a BRD can kill one.

and the list goes on. it's not impossible to farm, BRDs are just slow at it.

i think many BRDs make money from BCNM though that may not last forever as you run out of seals and it's not always possible to make gil off of other people's seals.

than there are the dozens of other ways to make gil in this game without having to farm.

NM camping like Lizzy can be done with a WAR sub just as well as any other job. you don't need to be high level to kill it and it doesn't matter how long you take to kill it. no DRK is going to kill Lizzy 4 times before you kill one. NM camping is all about patience and getting the claim, that's pretty much job independent though some jobs will help (THF, RNG, BST, etc).

Mining, Logging, Fishing, Crafting, Gardening, AH Manipulation, etc. all non-combative ways for anyone to make gil.

I'm personally a fan of fishing and mindless slaughter of turkeys for mithkabob ingredients. Other jobs can farm faster than we can, of course. Doesn't mean we can't farm fast enough to pay for our expenses. People aren't lying when they say that bard is the cheapest job in the game (though paladin comes close). Of course, that's not considering "luxury equipment" but the same could be said for every job.

Now that I've bought up my 72-73 equipment, my gil mainly goes to saving up for luxury equipment like Serket Ring (which, for all its expense, is still not as pricy as a Peacock Charm), and having enough for two Dynamis runs a week (if all goes well) and a steady supply of pamamas which is cheap enough.

You can also maybe go to try help other people for hunting their coffer key like when they shout for help. Sometimes, you can get good items from those monsters too.

Castle Zvahl Coffer Mobs drop some good stuff though the drops are rare.

if you can pull it off, go BRD/THF and maybe you can steal 1 or 2 Gold Beastcoins an hour helping with Coffer mobs in Davoi, Beadeaux and Castle Oz.

none of the other coffer mobs i've helped with really drops worthwhile stuff.
