CHR isn't a big factor but MP is... with rse galkan brd/whm have more mp than a taru does crazy right?
...so we will step away from the mainstream to live like vagabonds and common dropouts... don't you want to hang out and waste your life with us? -Spike
Unfortunately, we are talking about a GALKA, in FULL RSE!
Which will leave him lacking in the CHR department. I would also like to know whether this is compared to a Taru's base mp at that lvl, or a well equipped Taru.
You might be true, and I'd be very impressed, but I'm understandably a little shocked .
Well equiped Taru? Whatever a taru can equip for mp a galkan can equip... taru's cannot equip galka rse.
Full rse to level 75? Why not? Doesn't mean u won't buy or use other armor but when u need mp u'll have mp, more than a taru.
BCNM 40? I'll give u the importance of CHR in this fight but there's also the importance of survivability... the BRD dies it's all over... what bard would be more survivable than a galka?

Actaully Elvaans. Their Vit is only slightly lower but thei have the highest Chr in the game. with full RSE Elv's (Given as the armor of choice for BCNM40's) have nearly all the MP of Gal's, almost all of the HP and more Chr. The more Chr you have the less important being able to take hits is.
On the issue of wearing RSE to 75... I think you will find that a bad idea. RSE is simply wonderful for a bard from the 30's to 50 or so but at that point you will start to find that MP matters less and less as you get more and better Song debuffs, RDM's get convert and whm's get more MP efficent heals. You spend more time singing and less time backing up the healer. Hence Chr becomes more importantand MP less so. Along these lines there is simply better armor for bards out there, both for stats and simple DEF. For instance, the Justacorpse +1 at 58 offers +3 to Chr, mind, and int with 37 def as opposed to the RSE +32 +1 to Chr and int with 16 def. 32 MP is one heal while 21 def is a good drop in damage taken. There are several threads in the bard forum on the best equipement for bards and most any level.

well I was always under the impression that CHR had a very minimal effect apart from offensive buffs. I realize later on MP isn't that big of a deal... but I've rarely heard that CHR is.
I've seen a galka BRD in bcnm and he had no trouble landing Hoarde Laullaby.
I also said that u wouldn't NOT buy other armor but you'd always have that HUGE mp boost available if u needed it.

I appreciate the pro-Galkan BRD sentiment, but CHR is very important to a BRD.
However, to everyone, may I point out that the CHR difference between Taru/Hume/Elvaan and Galka/Mithra is approximately 8, give or take a point or two. Big freakin' deal. There's more +CHR gear out there than you'll know what to do with.

So what if a Galka chooses to wear his RSE? There are many accessories outside of actual clothing that give a ton of +CHR. Monster Signa, Corsette +1, Jester's Cape +1, Opo-Opo Crown post-Pamama fruit ingestion, various earrings, rings, necklaces, etc. Not to mention items like the Wind Torque that give bonuses to actual musical skill.
BTW, you do know that the Galkan RSE does give +CHR bonuses as well, right?
rofl... Nice troll post. Gonna wear RSE till 75?
I wore most of my RSE all the way up to level 62 and never had a problem.
For BCNM40's... MP = almost no (if any) factor... CHR = large factor (increased chance of landing lullaby on all mobs..if not length of sleep

I think it needs to be stressed that the success or failure of BCNM40 depends on the skill and experience of ALL the players involved. If you ask me, the race of the Bard is pretty inconsequential. If he loads himself down with +CHR gear and has that Mary's Horn ready, and if his teammates all know how to do their respective jobs as well, the Mandragoras don't stand a chance.
I've done at least 100 BCNM40's, and have only lost 3 times. Galka (and Mithra) BRDs can do the job just as well as any other race.
That's my two cents anyway.

i dont know about them making the "Best" bard.. but with me playing a tarutaru last night in Crawlers nest i saw a JPN player lvl 40ish galka brd.. had almost the exact same equip as me.. He was pulling for his group to  i dunno why... but he wasnt doing to bad of a job at it.. And also.. When a Galka and a Taru sing together... PRICELESS~!
In short.. i dont think race really matters when playing a bard... i think the only thing that does matter is who is playing it
yeh oki I was just being dramatic when I said "best"... I'm just saying that galkans make as good a bard as any race.

Don't take this as flame baid.. cause it sure isn't meant that way (I have rather enjoyed this discussion... esp. hearin from high level Gal bards)... but you have to admit you have backed off from the original point of topic of the post. I think the overall outcome is similar to Humes compared with other races. They (as a race on paper...no reference to to the player here) do *everything* ell but do not excell at any jobs compared to the other races.
Any skilled player can make a good high level bard out of any race, but if you are talking about the best bard then that 8 chr, increased mind for the occational debuff and vit that is right up there with gals

I found that after level 41 I was using MP a lot less, and now at 62 I almost NEVER touch my MP...with rfresh and two ballads on, even if I DID use my mp, it would be right back up in no time...so the whole argument of the galka bard having a ton of MP isn't really all that important. What's important is sticking and elegy at the start of a battle, or sleeping a link.

I usually just make sure I have at least 150mp, but most of the time at 55, I run full Chr gears, and I bring a gold hair pin as backup MP gear for those awful times when no one else can perform a Raise. (never actually happened yet). I'm for sure going to sell it as soon as my base MP is over 150.
After 50, we are way to busy trying to make everyone happy with songs, the most spells i cast are actually poisona or blinda.. thats about it.
