  • Bard and farming (or lack there of...)

So I'm a 47 bard, and have just gotten at thf up to 15.

Can I farm and log in Junger, or are we too weak and pathetic to even do that?

I have pretty decent (not incredible though) equipment, if that matters.
Jesus saves. Everyone else takes 10D6

maybe not fast, but so long as don't overly dot your monsters u can always put them to sleep and paeon up.

I'd think you can farm...but I mean, you'll have to be careful, you should have max dagger or sword (depending on what you are using) and you will be going much slower then a pld or bst would be going unfortunately.

Farming in the traditional sense of fighting monsters as a BRD is pretty grim. It takes us ages to kill monsters 20 levels below us, and with subbed THF you get downtime too. It's hardly worth the time.

I'd recommend taking up a craft, leveling an alternate job, doing BCNM, Fishing, or finding an alternate way of making money than farming as a Bard....

We just plain suck too much to be any good at it.

I happen to like mining myself. Given I have no melee job above level 9, I'm gonna have to stick to alternative methods.

I've made over 400k doing BCNM and splitting the loot with a set party I have...

Also, try shouting in jeuno that you will charger 10-20% of the drops to Bard for people in BCNM...it really all comes down to weather the bard can do it or not, so even if you get put with some bad players you can still win...hell I've won it with 2 people getting flooded to death (the stupid thing cast flood 4 times)

Watch Faranim's video, which is excelent I might add, then practice it with some friends, and once you get the hang of it, you can start making a lot of money.

Please realize that just because you're a good BRD doesn't mean you'll win all the time (especially with pickup parties).

Most Pickup parties for BCNM I join lose unless I get to bring along some of my RNG friends or a Healer. You'd be surprised how many healers don't understand when you say DONT LET THE BARD DIE and they neglect to cure you when you're at 50% HP.

I wish Beastmen Seals were easier to obtain, because I'd definately farm for them and then just do BC40 with friends over and over and over for money.

Yeah that's true, but I've rotated quite a few WHm's, and I just make sure to STRESS the point that the WHm does NOTHING except heal me, until we get down to 3 or 4 white ones in which I can almost cover the healing myself. (we play in a 2 healer configuration)

But either way, for a bard, BCNM is probably the fastest way to make some decent gil...on a good night you can get 3 or 4 erases and each one is 50k per party member.

OMG, I ran into this not too long ago. Our second WHM, who was designated as my personal healer, was totally paranoid about drawing aggro and decided to be very stingy with her heals. She kept me in yellow life and would reply with something like, "If I draw aggro, I'll die and then you'll die, and we'll lose!" every time I asked her to heal me a little more. I ended up healing myself more often than I EVER do in BCNMs and used all of my Yagudo Drinks thanks to this paranoid WHM.

THEN she decided to rest with more than 50% MP right when the mandragoras woke up a little earlier than usual. Yes...she didn't even use one of her Drinks...she freakin' RESTED. My Lullaby still had a few seconds till recharge, so I couldn't put the mandrags back to sleep right away.

Well, the damn things got a string of critical hits on me and dropped me into red life rather quickly. And what was my O-So-Fantastic WHM doing while I'm getting the crap beaten out of me? Still resting.

By this point, everyone was screaming at the WHM to get up and heal me...but by the time she had FINALLY gotten to her feet, it was too late...I was dead. Then she died, then everyone else died. We lost.

When we all HPed, she immediately disbanded...which was OK, because we were going to kick her out anyway. We restocked on our Food, got a replacement WHM from my LS, and then went back and won with no problem.

But yeah...BCNM40 is the best way for us Bards to make money...problem is that there's VERY little room for error in these battles. One mistake can ruin the entire thing.

Farming is possible at high levels, if you know what to do. I can pull in 40k an hour generally if I don't have competition, but at this point I don't have anything to buy anymore and spend most of my time advaning my LS.

Your damage comes mainly from your melee, which when combined with double-Minuet and a Meatkabob isn't 'that' bad. Plus having Evisceriation keeps your TP up a bit--5 hit combo for 27% TP with a Gully (73 dagger). Ballad between battles and try to keep Regen up as much as possible, stick and keep Elegy up at all times, and get your WHM slow up as well (Throw on Earth Threnody first). In this scenario Blink isn't going to be that useful, so I don't suggest casting it, but Stoneskin can be as it can last a decent amount of time (5-10 rounds of hits) where as Blink can be gone in a flash (2-3).

And to answer another question, yes at your level you can safely log in Junger Forest. Nothing there will agro you shy of an NM. I went there with my level 40 bard and everything conned to weak to me.
