Galka Bard?

Does anybody know one?

I know it's not the preferred race, but is it completely unplayable? Racial stats seem to matter less to a Bard than any other job.

RSE would provide about +100 MP to sub Whm if I wanted to.

This would be a secondary career for a melee.

My other option would be to make a Taru Bard, and have his secondary career be as a melee.

I just figured that Bards are in demand enough to make this easier to level than the aforementioned Taru melee.

And, no, I don't want to play a Hume or Elvaan (especially not Elvaan).

I've only seen one Galkan Bard before, leveling in quicksand caves at the same time as I was. He was JP, in an all JP group, and strangely enough wasn't wearing *any* +CHR equipment. I almost think the whole group was a set PT trying to see how far they could take unconventonal jobs/races/equipment.

Anywho, while you won't be as useful in an EXP PT (you can't get much melee in past level 40 or so) I would think a Galkan Bard with the right equipment would be very preferable for BCNM40 or other situations where the bard can expect to take some damage.

In an EXP PT, I'm unlikely to ever get aggro, maybe once or twice the entire night if I'm just going crazy or not careful. After my rotation of songs I can easily drop a Divine Seal + Curga or DS + Cure III and hate is still never an issue.

If you are set on a Galkan bard, I don't forsee any major probems .. but you may have a little explaining to do when the PT starts to question how effective you can be ;-).

As I said, this would be a secondary job. But I kinda like the idea of having one that's in demand for a party. Don't wanna decide to level my alt, then spend all night with no invites (as I might get with a Taru melee).

And I'd be willing to spend what it took to make up for Galka deficiencies, with both equipment and mage food for my sub.

I may give this a shot. There just seem to be a large number of people who plan on levelling Taru melees, but no Galka bards.

Galka bard is great for BC battles of any kind. Though they lack a little bit of CHR, it's easily made up for since there is a ton of +CHR gear that give large boosts. They have a TON of hp so you can take a beating without your healers breaking into a sweat playing keep the toothpick intact.

However, as tnt said you'll have a little bit of shortcomings in exp pts. Just as a reference, without ANY +MP equipment, i have more MP than my galka dark knight friend. When I equip my gear i have about 200 more MP than him. This is a dark knight, someone who naturally has MP without a sub. Keep in mind that a bard isn't your main healer so having a little bit less Mp isn't as important as it would be if you were a galka whm, smn or blm.

I play a Mithra Bard...that's almost as bad really. Galka Bards are viable, I've seen several. Just have to be willing to dish out the cash in order to be able to get all the +Chr stuff. +MP stuff is also a must, though the Galka RSE helps with that a lot. Being a Mithra Bard at lvl 40 I have a bonus of +16 to my Chr. I need it...I mean, my Dex is 6 points higher than my Chr naturally.

Get the basic stuff, especially at higher levels. Bird Whistle, Pearl Rings, Monster Signa if you can get it...and I forget what else I have. +2 from one of the Mithra RSE, Corsette and anything else I've been able to get my hands on. If you've got the Gil, a Galka bard will do juuuuuuust fine.

Galka make fine bards. Probably the best mage job for them actually. The 8 CHR points they lack make absolutly no difference at all in their performance and efficiency.

While Galkas are a little lacking in the CHR department, there are accessories out there that'll more than make up for it.

I'm a Galkan Bard, and I can safely say that no one seems to care. Even when my seeking flag is down, I'm constantly bombarded with invites from English and Japanese parties alike. Sometimes I even find myself going on /anon when I'm not looking to EXP farm.

I'm a Galka bard. Tons more HP than all the other races. Chr difference is there, but its not that noticeable on mobs. The only life or death song, lullaby, I've never had a problem with. As far as MP goes, I have a standing challenge for people to find another race of bard with as much MP as me (280ish normally now). I've seen level 70+ bards with less MP actually. My only real lacking point is defense, but I have the hp to make up for it as well as a defensive set of armor macroed for situations when I need it.

As far as PT invites go, never had a problem. I'm levelling in a set currently, so my opion is a tad biased, but I recieve a number of offers when I'm not grouped up and such.

yep, ur a bard, PTs want you. heres something I read from another post: don't bother making a static PT without a bard.
