How much gil can u make doing BCNM40

As everyone well knows a bard, whm, can't really farm effectively as compared to other jobs. I have been told my a few in game sources that BCNM is the way for a bard to make real gil, like over 200k (provide you do it many times over). Can someone who has done BCNM fights confirm or deny this?

Assuming you are doing giddeus (the easiest one). There are 3 "tiers" of items that drop. I might have forgot some items, so anyone else please add to this.

Tier 1:
Erase, Phalanx

Tier 2:
Refresh, Ice Spikes, Peridot, other various gems

Tier 3 (consolation prize):
Defense Gorget, Survival Belt, various rocks

On average you get 1 drop from tier 1, 3 items from tier 2, and 2 items from tier 3.

You get Erase or Phalanx every fight on average?
Done 12 bcnm40 and we got 4 Erase and 1 Phalanx...

Out of the 10 or so successes, we've only once or twice not recieved either phalanx or erase. I think you had bad luck , or I had really good luck? :angel:

BCNM40 Giddeus isn't the easy path to riches that many people make it out to be. It CAN be great, but a lot of things need to fall into place for that to happen. 1) Good players, 2) Excellent strategy, 3) Good party setup, 4) Willingness to spend some money to increase your chances of success. Those are the big ones. It's very different from anything you've probably done before in FFXI. Be prepared to fail miserably a couple times. It is not easy even when well-executed, but once you get a good group and plan that works you can start to get some good money out of it.

Almost everything but the 3 "big" spells (Erase, Phalanx, Ice Spikes) is worth less than 8k apiece, on Phoenix. Refresh, which drops very often, is probably worth more on other servers, but it's only like 7k on Phoenix. Ice spikes is 15-20k. Phalanx varies a bit, but is usually around 180-190k. Erase is still around 320-350k.

BCNM40 Giddeus is heavily "farmed", so the equipment drops may be really good but are also really cheap. The crafting materials are mostly 3-5k. Some items are worth less than 2k.

So, let's say you're doing BCNM 40 with 5 friends and you agree to split the loot. You win and get Phalanx, Ice Spikes, and misc other stuff. You spent 2k on food and medicine (for BRD, use 2 or 3 poison, boiled crab, maybe a juice). You'd net about 35k on Phoenix. But if you didn't get a big spell, you'd net only about 10k.

I've done many BCNMs in the past week or so, and so far it's funded my NIN quite well (though I'm thinking about dumping it all into crafting here soon ^^). The prices on my server are kinda different than other servers, but here is the good stuff that I've seen drop:
Erase - 390k
Phalanx - 135k
Utsusemi: Ni - 90k
Everything else isn't worth a whole lot (15k and under) and you aren't garunteed a good item every time. Because good loot isn't a sure thing, my groups have been splitting the good drops. In 6 fights (everyone in the group uses an orb) I usually am getting about 200k, sometimes a little more, sometimes less. So I would say that it's a great way to make money as long as you do it with a group of people you trust and have a good strategy planned out.

Last time my LS checked for our Whm, Erase was going for much higher than that on Fairy, Outaru. I've seen it go for as much as 500k, and heard it was still hovering around there. Unless someone suddenly flooded the market and I didn't hear about it.

And scroll prices must be low on Phoenix...wish we had that kinda luck on Fairy. Decent still, but I've heard of spells going for much lower on other servers then what we have. Hmmm, to bad I can't write my Masters thesis on a study of the economics of different servers.

I am lvl 37 and am getting ready to do BCNM40, currently farming a little bit to buy Mary's Horn.

I heard that it takes 40 beastcoins to do BCNM40. I have a 37 bard, 30 blm, 20 whm, 15 thf, 5 war etc. and I only have 110 beastoins. So how can I keep doing BCNM40? I haven't been throwing them away either.

i average around 100k per 6 battles. 6 battles take about 4 hours or so.

How do you guys divy up treasure I do not want to use lots as 1 or more members maybe walk away with nothing?

We plan on doing it 6 times, the RDM and WHM of course want Erase and Phalanx for their personal use. So two of the tier 1 items are gone. I hope we get some more I would really like to get enough to buy additional bard gear. Guess I will find out drop rate on Saturday if we beat them.

I've heard a couple of different ways of splitting up the loot; there was another thread from a couple of days ago about the same thing somewhere in the forums.

Personally, the runs I set up are simple. *Everything* gets sold, money is split evenly. To be fair, if someone wants an item for their personal use, that will either come out of their share of the profit, or they will have to reimburse the rest of the group if the item is worth more than their share of the pot.

The difference is just too high between the good stuff and the so-so stuff, and giving out spells that go for 5-20x the value of anything else you can win simply isn't fair. Of course, if it's all among friends and you are trying to help someone specifically get an item, that's cool.

A guy in my linkshell had a (imho) very strange way of doing it. Whoever used the orb to get into the BCNM would take one pick for himself, and the rest would get lotted on. Plenty of chance to come out a bit winner; even bigger chance of coming out with almost nothing. Pesonally I don't like that method, and am glad most people seem to shy away from it.

I have done over 40 BCNM 40 battles (I am my LS's only BRD) and we handle our loot this way: Whoever uses orbs get 100% of the loot. Its kind of like a lottery. It's the only way I will do them.

We don't lose anymore, we have developed a extremely good strategy that causes us to win even if we are thrown a few curve balls. However, the prices of BCNM40 drops are getting stupid low.
