  • For BCNMs, do you?

    The Initial Pull:

Have the plants come to you or you run to the plants?

    The Continual Sleep:

Keep the plants in one area and ae sleep or run to different parts of the area to beeline them and AE Sleep

I’ve read almost all the different strategies for the Giddeus BCNM fight and just wondering what the bards think.

    To sum it up:

    1) Pull into the hallway

    2) Stay in one spot when I moved aorund I noticed I missed some of them due to them running around.

    3) Eat a fish chiefkabob <.<

    4) Wear lots of def armor.

    5) Sing Minne and Ballad inbetween sleeps.

    6) Make sure you have a Mary's Horn.

and the most important of them all:

    7) Don't panic! You can stay in control. You will get the timing down pat of sleeping. It will all become eaiser. :spin:

This fight is also eaiser with a nin tank due to flood issues.

I've done BCNM40 without a single flaw 5 out of 5 times without Mary's horn. The trick is learning to count the duration of sleep, and start the song early. After the first 2 or 3 sleeps, I usually get a feel for the duration. You don't need a Mary's Horn.

Without a mary's horn I had this probelm: They would wake up before the song refeshed and nearly killing me before I could get out the next Lullaby.

That was just my experience with it I did not try again after that until I got the horn.

Run to the plants, don't make the plants move around.

Our Bard does the inital pull with Horde Lullaby and a Harp to make sure he hits all of the onions and gets them to agro on him. He then switches to his Mary's Horn and gets them all in a nice compact area when they wake from the first sleep.

Now that he has agro, the Warrior runs in a provokes the Black one and the Ranger and Dark Knight run in and go nuts while the Red Mage and I stay far back out of sleep range and cure.

Why not just have someone escort you to the BC on a lvl 1 job, cross your fingers and hope you pick the right chest? That way you get 100% of the profit If not, bye bye

Ps. How do you have lvl 56/30 as your lvls? ......

The reason folks pull to the hallway is an issue of safety. If the party gets wiped out, the mobs retreat to their orginal spawn point, Whm reraises etc. Saves running back as you only have 30 min.
My perma group is 7-0 on bcnm 40 Giddeus. I did it as a Brd/Whm without Mary's Horn or the Signa. I wore Hume F RSE, nobles ribbon, birdwhistle, paper knife(our AF1), and chr rings and ate a Fishkabob. While the Black is going down I sang Ballad and healing if possible, and then moved to ballad for mages and melee mix on tanks as the onions thin out.
I did not get a single resist nor did they wake before horde lullaby refreshed. If you need to "reset" the sleep timer on the onions you can always cast an aoe (with approprate sub i.e. Banishga,Waterga) and then cast Horde Lullaby again. Best advice anyone can give you is to stay calm!

i usually try to cast blink on myself between sleeps also. it only absorbs 3 hits but thats 60+ dmg and more importantly helps me feel safe

The trick is to make sure that they are always in front of you, don't let them sneak into your back because if you cast Horde lullaby and miss too many, youre in real trouble because this force the mage to heal you over and over and they will quickly run out of MP. A good trick when you have too many who are not asleep at the same time is to cast Banishga to wake them all up and quickly cast Horde Lullaby, this will put them all asleep. The real problem in this fight for me is the targetting. When mage start to heal me, I lose my target and I have to tab or click on a Domovoi and this can be very dangerous at the start when theres many of them.

Making this way too complicated guys =)

Pld/War/Nin/Sam whatever.. runs at the black guy.. you run in behind him.. wait about 2 seconds.. Cast horde on the black one.. 10times out of 10 you will hit all of the little bastards on the first lullabye. Then have your pld move the black guy away and your set.. let them group a little.. resleep. Once you have the timing down.. you can run and toss melee songs around or ballad/slows etc if your brave =P

Just now bought a Mary horn.. but before.. I had 17wins-2loss..

My biggest piece of advice.. is only do these BCNM with people you know... random pickup retard bcnm invites have contributed to my only 2 losses =/

I, for one, run around the circle and let them bee-line to me, as you put it, to prevent taking unnecessary damage.

With this strategy, I can keep minne and ballad 1 on myself and the mages and can spend 100% of my MP on healing the tank (ie. the highest dmg. dealer). If not for the black one, I could go into the ring and keep them asleep by myself for the full 30 minutes without breaking a sweat.

This might not work for everyone, but I have had great success with it and would not even think about switching back to the standing-still strategy.

One thing to keep in mind when using a harp for ranged purposes, your string and wind skill come into play when calculating lullaby effectiveness, so make sure you have string maxxed out if you decide to go this option. Instead I let the PLD or WAR or whoever feels like it run in first and begin grouping them for the first lullaby.

Also to the people without Mary's Horn: what do you tell your BC PT(s) when they ask you why you don't have such an essential item that costs only 100k? By level 60, most melees I group with have invested well over a million gil into equipment. I feel relatively cheap sitting at about 500k worth of equipment total, I can't imagine not owning mary's, +1 instruments, +1 jester's cape, or +1 corsette. What do you guys spend money on?

Oh, I forgot to mention the reason why this works better than you might imagine:

Seems like hate reduction in this game requires you to get hit. Often in PTs, after something I have cast lullaby on wakes up, it will attack me for one or two rounds then switch to the WHM. Because you are pre-targeting a mandragora and casting Horde Lullaby from a distance, they often get 0 rounds of attacks before getting put to sleep again. This means they stay locked on me for the entire fight and don't end up chasing mages around the ring.

Okie... I have a question. Assuming the tank is pulling the group of Mandragoras back into the hallway, where is the best spot for the Bard to be positioned?

                            1) By the melees, where the black and white mands will originally be sleeping.

                            Or

                            2) By the mages.

The BCNM PT I was in earlier told me to stay by the mages. But, wouldnt this create the problem of the white mands seperating while running towards after the original Lullaby wore off? (Since the original positions of the whites will be right near where the melees are fighting the black)

So... it would seem logical for me to stand right next to the melees so the whites have less of a chance to be seperated.... right?

                            I'm so confused ><

Hmm, won 6 out of 6 bcnm this weekend where the paladin pulled into the hallway, I stood by the middle light and let the pld take hits until the whites were standing so all would fall asleep which they would with a decent margin before the pld needed healing. Mages were standing at the entrance circle.

I would keep the whites away from the mages due to sleep, sure they should drink poison potions but can never be safe enough.

I haven't tried fighting in the big arena area and I wouldn't try either to be honest cause if you fuck up you can't recover, if you fight in the corridor you can all die, whm can take reraise, raise all other members and you still have time left to win. (I followed advice on this board to count and start casting lullaby before they woke up and well, I did it like half a second too early, 7 little mandragoras hitting for 20 can generate quite a lot of pain. Now I simply wait for the "xx is no longer asleep" message then cast horde, it casts so fast the mandras will get one melee round at most.)
If the mandras run for the mages and your mages have decent IQ they'll hit the mage once then run back to you, this really wasn't a problem as the mages don't generate aggro on sleeping monsters.
If I'd try beelining them which I will next weekend I'd do it in the corridor where raising is safe. (well unless you have tractor of course)

(Btw, First try whm died on inc cause he was sitting, took reraise then our drg died after like 2 minutes, still we won with good margin. So bcnm40 is perfectly doable even with 5 players lol.)
