I know the main priority for a BRD is to have CHR equipment, however I am lvl 17 at the minute, and am wondering what to get for standard body armour, legs, head etc.

Do I wear the Robe's ala the mage or do I wear the Leather Vest style clothing?

Is there a garment more Bard specific as I level up? Or do I constantly have both Mage/Warrior type armour to choose from?

CHR only affects certain lines of songs, and not drastically at that, so for normal leveling it's not necessary to have high CHR. However it's very useful for Lullaby and landing debuffs etc. With few exceptions +CHR items are plentiful and give a lot of boosts for their price, vs. the other +stat items for other jobs. If you sub WHM or RDM it's better to have +MP gear for normal leveling. At 17 you're better off with lizard armor, and then at 21 beetle. Since as a bard you rarely gain aggro having good defense isn't a priority. I'd just set an interval like upgrade every 10 levels or so, or sooner if you can afford to. Pick from whichever type, whether melee or mage, offers the most gain for the gil at a level.

I've just hit lvl 21. I'd kinda like to stay with the Robes as such because I don't like the body armour type equipment. I'm shallow like that

Shall I stick with my Doublet for a while? I rarely get hit in battle and feel spending money on Songs will be more important. I've really hit a low amount of cash at the minute anyway.

Is there any nice BRD equipment coming up that I should be thinking of buying around my lvl?

At 21, you could wear a full set of Beetle Harness and for your headgear, you could wear a Silver Hairpin which is going to add 15 MP or a Noble Ribbon for +3 CHR. The ribbon cost around 15k while the Hairpin is 2k.

You can also equip a Royal Spearman Horn which give +3 CHR, Im not sure if the level requirement is 20 or 25. Its a nice flute and you will probably be keeping for a long time.

I suggest you wear the armor that gives you the best protection. Robes are for mage but Bard is lucky and he's not limited to only Robes and light clothes. You can equip Harness and Leather armor which gives much better protection. The only time you should use a Robe is when it has an good stat boost. RSE is also very good for Bards since the armor gives alot of stats bonus with HP and MP boost. Even if the DEF is low, Bard dont get hit often so so the HP coming out of it is more usefull than DEF.

I'm at 30 and i was looking into the future what to wear.. I'm still wearing lvl 17 stuff. I know I can wear my whm robe, but honestly it looks ugly.

Anyways, I was upset to find out I can't really get anymore armor that has cha stuff. Also it seem limited what I can wear now, cause i'm a taru. :mad: I was hoping I could wear the custom or savage stuff.. I love the extra hp or mp it gives.

You guys have any suggestion what I should get from lvl 30-33?

you should try to purchase equipment that will be beneficial to you throughout the game that way you dont have to blow lots of money upgrading your equipment. I'm a lvl 66 bard and right now have equipped-

weapon- monster signa- +8chr

range- I have a +1 flute for every song excpet elegy- i knew i wanted to end up with HQ instrument so I didnt waste money on normal stuff

Hat- I have Af/ noble ribbons- i wear ribbon in lvl up PT for chr boost

Neck- I have bird whistle- +3 chr

earring- i have bat earring and enhance earring - only great earrings for bard are melody earring but their too expensive

body- I wear AF

hands- AF (soooooo good)

rings- moon ring or astral ring maybe one day ill get HQ moon rings

Back- HQ jester's cape- +10 chr

belt- corsette- +5 chr

pants- AF/RSE

boot- AF/RSE

As you can tell all of my equip is for chr boost unless i fight HNM or BCNM in which i need defense and mp.

Chr is wicked important because at higher levels in lvl up PTs you need elegy and threnodies to stack and need sleep to not resist

As for the armor, I guess the RSE stuff, I am limited to robes that will also fit my taru whm?

I was hoping to stay away from robes.. tired of how they look, but if they are my only option, I guess I'm going to have to do that.

in all honesty you dont really need very great armor at low levels. noone will care if you have beetle harness instead of lizard armor. They will however care if you have more mp for healing and hence chaining and will care especially if you have more chr and your songs dont get resisted. Hence you should go for those really sweet chr items that you can buy at you level that you KNOW you will be using later on in the game.

When i started as bard i got bird whistle as soon as i could equip it and have not had to buy a new neck item since.

each time im high enough level to get an instrument i need (+madrigal, +minuet +thrennody) I always get the HQ version and have not had to upgrade since.

I have a monster signa and their will not be a better weapon to use. (its a big investment at first but think about how much other jobs spend on their new weapons. Especially their BEST weapon)

the cape was quite a cpstly expenditure- HQ jester cape, (300k) but it is mad helpful and wont ever need to be replaced, also it kinda makes you feel good to have such a nice item

As far as earrings, there is only one earring which gives +chr and on my server only 6 have been sold and each go for 500k+, so right now i just have +mp earrings and will buy those asap.

as far as body leg hand and pant armor. I actually as an elvaan was lazy and used RSE all the way till i got AF, it gave me lots of good mp bonuses and there wasnt much better stufff that i needed so it worked out ok.

I guess it all depends on how you want to play if you want to be the best and fight HNM and do all that stuff you will prolly need really good equipment. But if your just playing for fun and figuring out what you want to do then its not such a priority.

Okay, so basically you are telling me, to keep my lvl 17 armor I have. And safe up for stuff I don't have such as Mary's Horn, Monster Signa, and Jester Cape?

yeah. Personally i camped mary's horn and you can camp signa maybe and then spend the money on the jester's cape or earrings or corsette which cannot be obtained by camping. BUT make sure you have enough money to buy all the spells you need before buying new equip. Spells such as ballad 2 and minuet 4 are expensive and being a bard without those spells is an embaressment and waste of a slot (unlles of course you dont meet level requirement to use them lol)
